  • We might as well keep iron now for a couple of pikes.

Banana has 43gold in the bank, not sure that this is enough to buy out the slave revolt. Does anyone know?
We could offer them cash for the iron in that case.

    • Doh, what is it with this damn forum, that keeps me double posting all the time.

      • I don't think we want to pay to continue the iron deal, but that doesn't mean we need to go suggesting that Banana cancel it either. If they happen to forget that the deal is active... well... what a shame that would be.

The moment has passed as events need to be dealt with straight away (remember the CTD 'killing' a negative event at the CFC demogame).

          • Yes, but the slave revolt has an option to continue next turn and spread to other cities if not paid off.

            • Do we need iron right now? I suppose one or two pikemen would be nice but elephants do a similar job to them.

              • In that case we should play fair and cancel the deal with Banana.

                  I agree.

                    • Banana made it clear that they want something in return for the iron deal to extend beyond T124.
Why would we want to create ill will with our only true ally in the game?

I am strongly in favor of cancelling the deal in-game this turn and sending Banana a note about it.

                      • The reason to have some pikes over just elephants is that pikes beat enemy elephants.

I think we should leave the iron deal active for the moment. We should plead with Banana to let us keep it for just long enough to get a couple pikes out (perhaps by upgrading spears?), then have Banana take it back. We can pay Banana a few gold for the privilege. We only need another 2-3 turns of iron; we don't need to pay for 10 turns worth of it.

                        • I'm with Sullla, I see zero reason to notify Banana.

And pikes do have odds on enemy elephants, but what are the chances the enemy elephant will be the top defender versus a pike? Plus how good are pikes at attacking enemy cities?

I completely agree. Creating ill will with our best ally just for fun is not a good diplomatic strategy. Whatever benefit we get from holding on to Iron for a few extra turn will be more than cancelled by our decreased ability to make deals that rely on trust. (Like the proposed Gunpowder for Guilds deal.)

If we want Iron for a few turns, we should pay for it. Maybe we can offer them a cash payment large enough to cancel the revolt.

                            • I vote for cancelling the deal too.
