  • yes - but aren't we being a little 2-faced ... asking Aidun to put together a 3-say alliance while will talk to Imperio about joining us in killing Templar.

That said, once we take Jericho, you can forget about the 3-way and this becomes the only option for Imperio.

We're keeping an open mind on alliances Frankly, I hope Imperio joins us: a two way alliance with Imperio will be tricky, but a three way with Templars and Imperio will be a nightmare to co-ordinate.

        ...
I guess we could add a PS that "everybody against PAL" alliance is also a possiblity. I don't think that is likely to happen, but I guess there is no reason to close that door.

The biggest problem with 3-way alliance is that it would collapse the moment PAL looked to be sufficiently weakened. So we'd end up either failing to commit enough forces because of all allies keeping most armies at home to guard from backstub, or facing a logistical nightmare of fighting a war while most of our troops are half a world away.

        • Since PAL seems to have gone on a diplomatic offensive, we have to react quickly. So unless somebody comes up with another draft (or a strong objection), I'll send my draft about 12 hours from now, adding following PS:

PS We are also open to a possibility of "everybody against PAL" alliance, although we'd still prefer to ally with you alone. (The fewer allies, the less contention for spoils of victory.)

          • @ Zeviz: I don't think it makes sense to send another email that doesn't add much to ast one we sent:
            Hi Imperio,

Sorry for the delay in replying: we've not been ignoring you message, but rather we've been discussing in great detail our reply.

Be assured, PAL is currently winning this game. If we continue to fight each other PAL will win. Also, PAL already have caravels heading to the new continent...

Here is the current population breakdown:

            PAL 72 - 11 cities
            RB 55 - 10 cities
            Imp 41 - 6 cities
            Ban 40 - 7 cities
            Tem 30 - 5 cities
            Rab 12 - 5 cities

PAL is far ahead in population, and has lots more good land to settle. Also note that Templar who were at peace for 130 turns have as few cities as Rabbits, who have been fighting for their lives for half the game! And consider all the technologies you have given to Templars! With allies like Templars, you have no chance to win.

Your only hope of winning the game is to get majority of Templar lands. You have better land than we do and have bigger cities, so you'll be even with us in population if you get the majority of Templar lands. How will you achieve this? By making a alliance with Team RB to destroy Templars!

If you split Templar lands with us, our alliance will be able to take down PAL. If you keep trying to attack us with Templars, the best you can hope for is to get more of our continent before PAL consolidates control of their continent and comes to take you out. (PAL's continent is bigger than ours, so even if you + Templars miraculously gain full control of our entire continent PAL still wins.)

Let us know whether you would be interested in an alliance with us and we can work on the details. Be assured that we will say nothing about this to Templars.

            TeamRB

            I'd prefer:

            Hi Imperio,

Do you have any feedback on our previous proposal?

We are still interested in an alliance that would be able to take on PAL. We think that the best options is for both our teams to get stronger by taking over Templars' cities, and to work together to beat PAL.

We see Damascus, Constantinople, and Acre being a good fit to your existing lands. There's also space by Acre for you to settle another strong city (seafood, river, grass hills).

Finally, let us mention Cape Town. You demanded it for peace, so it's clear that you feel it is part of your 'backyard'. While this may be the case, the mapmaker did not put any horses or metals in the eastern half of our continent (our backyard). So our choice was to settle Cape Town, or resign from the game in protest at an unfair map.

If you join us against Templars, then Constantinople has Copper and Horses, as well as Rice and rivers which should surely compensate you for missing out on Cape Town.

We look forward to your reply.
I took some poetic licence about resigning, but we need to let Imperio why we won't give it up, else there's no chance they'll get over it. What do you think?

            • The question is: do we want to send this now or after potentially razing Jericho.

              • My proposal is high level, so we can afford to send it now to get them thinking about the rewards of allying with us. When we take Jericho, we send our pre-prepared email fleshing out the detail: white peace, open borders, we hold off Templars main army at Jericho/Pink allowing them to attack the poorly defended cities of Damascus and Constantinople (and also remind them we have enough forces to hold them off if they try to attack Cape Town).

                • agree with SP's version - but lets get this sent soon.

                  • Perhaps it should be edited to used simpler english, cutting "backyard", changing "there's" to "there is" etc.

                    • did not put any horses or metals in the western half of our continent
Also keep in mind that they are not after Cape Town because of the metal and horses (they do have those). So there is little incentive in offering Constantinople.
