  • It seems PAL haven't forgotten to remember that we completely forgot to remember to send them a reply.......

    Hello Rabbits,

It's been a while since we've talked. We would appreciate a response as we finish hunting in a couple of turns and we need to know whether we have a deal or not.

Not sure we need to give them any info regarding wonders just yet though......

      • I think we should give them a peace treaty that will last until around the time we are ready to attack. If we figure that the planned expansion will take what? Maybe 30-40 turns? Is that correct? If so we should offer them a 40 turn peace treaty.

        Dear PAL,

Our apologies for the late response, but our rabbits were in the process of spreading wide and far and it took time to collect the carrots of opinion.

Thank you again for letting us pass. The info you have shared helps till the garden of peace and friendship.

As on your request of our techlist, we have finished the following ones:

        Fishing
        The Wheel
        Hunting
        Mysticism
        Mining
        Masonry
        Animal Husbandry
        Bronze Working

Further more, we've about finished Sailing.

We have already encountered our first Barbarian warrior so we will be building more than just warriors ourselves.

We suggest an 20 turn peace agreement.

        • I don't know. A 40 turn peace treaty is too obvious. Unless they have cabbage for brains they'll know we plan to attack on turn 41...

          • That's why you word it more unobtrusively.

            For instance:

We would like to set up a series of talks at a 20 turn increment. At these times, we can agree to trades, discuss technology paths, world events, and peace. This ensures that our two teams have a detailed discussion at a minimum of every 20 turns and gets us on a schedule to make negotiations swift and predictable. It is our hope this schedule will deepen the growing friendship between our peoples.

As such, we would like to offer peace for the next 20 turns in addition to an agreement to trade (insert research targets here) for (insert desired targets yere). (insert anything we have going on I don't know about here)

            Or something.

After we renew the first time, they come to trust that it will come again, if we play it right.

Then we just 'forget' to renew when it is convenient for us.

            • Actually this is pretty good. They will think something is up and be ready after 20 turns. At that time its business as usual, we extend for another 20, do more trades, nothing to worry about, etc. The next time if we don't attack we do the same, now they're getting used to it. The third time, ooppsss...

              20 turns.

I have always felt that this approach lets an astute "ally" know that a day of reckoning is coming. If they are smart they will try to pre-empt that day. In that case we are no better off than the "40 turns of peace" path.

My feeling is to write a treaty in such a way that it can be interpreted to be broken by the smallest of things yet appear to be solid on the surface. Remember..."keep you friend s close and your enemies closer"
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Which is, actually, perfectly fine. Let them pre-empt. Then no one can argue how justified we are mopping the floor with them. They attacked US! How COULD they, we were friends!!! Boohooo. We just happen to be defending ourselves quite extraordinarily despite this completely unforeseen turn of events. You know how I...err..."defend".

The scheduled diplomacy sessions leave our options open. We can always choose to renew if it don't look like things are ideal.

                        • Without elaboration on PLATO's proposal this is where we stand at the moment. If we need to send something right away, this gives us 20 turns to come up with something else.

                          • We have 11.5 hours to make a decision if we are going to get it off this turn.

I say this should keep the embers of friendship alight for the time being
