My dear fellow Wabbits, one first word: Food.

Current location has not enough food to work the surrounding hills.

And to take the settler to the blue point to settle there is a very risky

bet, as it wastes one fresh water grass. If you really want the place,

then move the scout first to the same tile to check food to the east

        (but it looks water).

        IMHO the safest and best place is the plains 3 (SE) of the settler;

plains/hills/stone= 6H for the price of -2F (not 4) and all irrigable grass

remain free; but I would play first the scout 3 to check the south.

Yes, in this first turn, scout to help find the good spot for capital.

(Low food and commerce, high hammers; if the surrounding tiles

are similar... a war game, isn't it? I know you became sad now).

        Best regards,

If going that route, I'ld suggest moving the scout along the yellow path.

Moving 3 reveals all the forest tiles to the south, yes.

But moving the yellow path reveals the cost, and all forest tiles sout except the one 2-2 of it's present location. Which, frankly, odds of that tile having game are slim.

By moving the yellow, we'll have a view of both potential seafoods to the east and potential foods to the south, and thus the best vantage to determine a city location.

What are you talking about? A city on the blue spot will have 5 grass plots within its citycross that I already can count, most of them adjacent to the fresh water lake which in itself is a potential 3 provider, not to mention the cows. That's 7 plots which give 3 at first, and 5 of them can give 4 once Biology is coming around. That's 3 non- plots that can be worked.

I admit we'll need a little luck with seafood on the east, but the spot you want us to settle leaves the city in the middle of the land with no chances of making the best of the fresh water lake.
Besides, since the area we're in has so few resources, I think the odds are good we'll find seafood on both coasts.

Do we know that's coast to the east and not another lake?

Scout along the yellow path is probably the best first move. That path will reveal if there is coastal food by the blue spot. If there is we move to blue spot and settle next turn. If there is no coastal food then we need to make a big decision. Do we settle on the first or second turn. If we settle on the first turn we go to the square one SE as fed suggested. If we decided to take the big gamble, we send the settler 2 squares N. That will bring us to a wooded hill next to a river. We will still have the cow and stone in our radius as we would if we settled first turn. The gamble is that there will be some resources revealed to the north.
Yes, negotiations could take some time.

It appears Whiplashes team didn't settle and they've already ended their turn.
