Grendel, Firaxis does have a public beta test team. I guess you didn't make it on it. Many of the issues brought up on this forum have been found by them. Just because a bug is found doesn't mean it will or can be fixed by the next patch (work in software for a while and you'll how and why that can happen).

I have a problem in singleplayer:
When the AI is making its turns the game just stalls, when an AI bomber is intercepted by my fighter.
I have tried going back to a save and not having the fighter set on interception and then it does not stall.
It does not crash or anything but simply just does not go anywhere.
I have modded the air units range in this game, so it maybe related to that.
I have attached the save game file. End the turn to see the problem.

Not necessarily a bug, but a complaint: When moving a unit that can move multiple spaces, i.e. Galley that can move 4 spaces...I move it 2, then the game jumps to the next unit...I have to go back and move it the other 2. In SP it does not do this. It waits until you finish with that unit.

Has anyone said anything about the PBEM's yet? There are problems with setting those up. Especially when you save them. No way to save the game in the middle of a turn. This is important when a moderater is setting up a game.
There needs to be more safeguards against cheating. and there needs to be battle messages.
I have more detailed bugs with the PBEM's. I just don't want to post them here for security reasons.

Firaxis reads this forum.
I agree about the battle messages. This is (currently) my biggest gripe with PBEM. Figuring out just what happened since my last turn.
As far as cheating goes, they essentially told me (when I complained about a few easy methods), "Honor System, Brian, Honor System".Seemingly Benign

Bugs With Chat
1) I've noticed that it is not possible to turn off the chat balloons to enable private chat with specific players. You have to select the chat balloon immediately below the balloon you want to disable. This occurs anytime you have a player leave the game with 3 or more players remaining. It is impossible to disable the last player in the list at that point because there is not a player beneath to select their balloon.
2) I've noticed on occassion that when initiating diplomacy the chat function fails too.
Anyone experienced this bug besides me ?

Editor Bug: Unchecking the "upgrade unit" box on a units properties should make it unupgradeable. The upgrade command is disabled, but they forgot about the Shift-U upgrade all command. Yes, my military advisor yesterday was very slow and, at one point, froze up.
Another curiosity: at one point I clicked on a town to see what units were there and the list included, among other things, a "musketman". I thought I'd upgraded everyone to "mech infantry" (that's how far along I was in the game!). I clicked on "musketman" and the mech infantry icon appeared.
Tried it several times but he remained labelled "musketman".
There have been a few other oddities but I can't recall them now.Jack

There is a bombing bug that causes the game to crash when bombing enemy territory. It crashes when the enemy space is selected to bomb. The OS gives a general protection fault error in civilization3.exe. PTW is version 1.14f, Civ 3 is version 1.29f. Win98se / P4 2GHz / 256meg ram.
