PBEM: A Simple Normal Game

Hey Gyro - I seem to be having some sort of error with the file. When I try to load the file it says that the save file is not a compatable save file? Is this the i/o error i've heard about?
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but could you please re-take your turn and send it again?I keep a record of all my civ games here.

and an advice on how to report them to firaxis.
The I/O error can usually be fixed by previous player replaying his turn and adjusting preferences to something different than they were before saving.

Just because I am curious...
How is everyone enjoying their games?
Is the PBEM experience what you hoped?
Is the pace too slow?
In some cases, I know you have encountered one another, and in others you have actually had conflicts already? Any thoughts?
Personally I am thoroughly enjoying the game. The pace has been satisfactory and I am enjoying the emerging diplomatic experience. I really look forward to really getting into it with you guys, both militarily and diplomatically. I like spending this much time with one civ, in one game, because it has allowed me to really care about the status of my tribe. I am nervous what serious war will feel like... spending this much time with my people will make me weary of risking them, I think.
While I cannot say what it will be like with certainty, I anticipate it will be the Civ experience I have been hoping for the last ten years. (Deeply complex diplomacy with challanging oppenents engaging in multi-level strategies.)I keep a record of all my civ games here.

Personally, I'm enjoying the game very much.
This is my first real PBEM experience and it is exactly what I was looking for. Although PBEM is a much slower game, I think it is also much more complex. I find that I don't typically like RTS games because they seem to rely more on quick mouse clicks and micromanagement rather than a lot of deep strategy. I was somewhat dissapointed with multiplayer civ 3 for the same reason. It seems that the only way to finish a game without people quitting is to play a small map where the focus is mostly military and early victory. PBEM feels very different and much more interesting. This is what I'm looking for in a Civ 3 MP game.
I think playing a long game against human opponents also takes the civ 3 diplomacy model to a whole new level. There are many more things to consider when playing against human opponents than when playing an AI. I'm really looking forward to the middle and late game as I'm sure there are going to be interesting game mechanics in play.
Lastly, in this PBEM I've noticed the fun of carefully planning every move in the early game. When playing against AI, I consciously slow down and analyze carefully during the early game, but not near to the extent that PBEM allows. I find myself spending part of the day thinking about the minute details of my next moves. Very interesting to see how plans evolve and change based upon meeting civs, etc. I'd also echo Aranias's comments about spending a lot of time with my tribe, I'm starting to like the little buggers.
Overall, I think this is a great game so far and I'm looking forward to see how everything plays out.Last edited by Clegg; December 16, 2002, 19:45.

I'm really sorry guys but I think I'm gonna be stuck on campus until at least tomarrow night. I will try to have my roommate take my turn if he is free... but if not it'll have to wait till tomarrow night. I'm sorry!
Its final exam time and I have been living in the library on and off for the last 4 days.
The good: this means i'm on the 'poly all day long.
The Bad: no Civ until I get home.

No good. My roommate just tried taking the turn and didn't work. He tried loading the game normally, and from the multiplayer screen and it still says incompatable file. So here is what I think... Pretend I just sent the file on.
Random, please take your turn again and send it on. (I would do it but I'm won't be at my computer for awhile) Would everyone please perform their actions in a different order, and change a few preferences to create a different save file by the time it gets back around to me.
If anyone else has any suggestions I'm all ears. Sorry about all this...

If the save is still not working, Gyromancer should play it over again and adjust preferences to something else before saving, AND save with different save name, not just overwrite the old one.
This has helped a few times when i had similar bug.
/edit: if even this wont work, then aryonis could give his password to the next player who could try loading the game with it ? That player could then block the minimap and just press end turn and then save the game to himself and play his own turn normally & pass the game on ?Last edited by Conqueror; December 18, 2002, 10:27.

Alright. Gyro, if you see his conqueror's suggestion and you want to give it a try, I'm game. If this still doesn't work, we can try his second solution (though I'm not sure I understand it exactly)I keep a record of all my civ games here.
