Not to mention that it would render the herds of the great families, the source of their pride and respect, unnecessary. His former rivals stood before him, they had not been offered chairs, waiting for his judgment. He began to lay out his plan in a frail whisper his new allies strained to hear. That was what his voice had become after too many conspiracies and too many imagined spies. He was invigorated by the prospect that Ahimelech would be more of a challenge than this lot of fools.
