That is how it had always been anyway. So as the North Star once again began to approach the brow of Ursa Major all seemed in the proper order. Like all festivals it was an opportunity for the great families to prove to the people which of them had the greatest share of Antu’s blessing by showing off their great wealth. As dusk fell each of the six estates was lit by a tremendous bon fire in a competition to see who could roast the largest animal from their herd.

Long after dusk the estates began to dim as the fires showed more ember than flame and the roast beast showed more bone than meat. Then a huge bon fire suddenly appeared in the center of the marketplace. There was no beast but by all accounts the Wianna was far stronger and there was dancing and games. The crowds streamed away from the estates and into the market. The merchants of Hatusas seemed to have the blessing of Antu, but surely they earned the wrath of the great families.

Off into the distance the proud group of young men tromped. The children watch for as long as they could see the warriors, and dreams of following in the foot steps of such brave men filled their head.

            on to Gramps

The Byzantium people were fast asleep lost in the magical world of dreams when a distant sound awoke them on the wind, here its your turn it said

The scribes entered all this down in the great book of Byzantium, and it was foretold that one day in many years to come we would at last find the source of this distant voice who reawakened the slumbering Byzantiums..............................

Ya never know Gramps. Ya never know.

Meanwhile - elsewhere in the world - the Egyptians were secure in their one-ness under the great sun god.

This exhibition was more than just a chance for the merchants to embarrass the great families. Ahimelech, the chairman of the guild, had been dissatisfied with mere wealth for some time. Why should the old patriarchs stand beside the King at every festival? It is the merchants who carry Hattusas’ reputation to all the wild tribes with their trade missions and it is the artisans who make the fine goods upon which Hattusas reputation rests. The success of the New Year celebration gave him a short period of freedom in which the patriarchs dare not interfere. Their respectability would be little use against an enraged population that believes the spectacle of New Year was a sign of divine favor. As chairman he commanded an army of artisans and now was the time to set them to work on a structure that would irreparably change the balance of power in the city, a granary.

Word of the great warrior Malagbel's recent trek to the top of a nearby mountain top had made it back to the small villiage. Tales of a vast desert streaching for as far his his eagle eyes could see laid before him on the other side.

Many many choices present themselves before our people, do we build a ship to explore the coastal waters of our world, or do we train a new military unit to defend our beautiful city.

                            1889 - as usual - great story.

GT - great picture. Scrambled please.

As for the Egyptians, well, they could not determine if the sun had gotten brighter or the land whiter. At any rate, warriors do not wander far without eye protection.

                            To s.m.
