Tahurwaili had had enough games. He was head of the richest family and so knew something of the language of Hiyon. Ahimelech and his gang wanted money above all things and the patricians already had plenty. In the night he sent messengers to the workers with money and gifts and said they can have more if the bricks were stacked at odd angles and the mortar was used with less care. The gifts were accepted and Tahurwaili smiled at his cleverness. Things are so simple when you take the time to understand your enemy. With the construction sabotaged; the granary could never be used.

Tahurwaili was correct in assuming that money was the universal language, but because he had never ventured outside the city he was unfamiliar with its many dialects. Intrigue was second nature to the rich and powerful of Hattusas, but the wild-landers had few possessions more valuable than their word. It made no sense to them that they should get more money for bad work. Surely he meant that the work was to be completed more quickly. When Tahurwaili tried to reclaim his payment he finally realized how much they valued a promise as they chased him ran back to the safety of his Estate.
