The Eve of Destruction Demo Game certainly can absorb many hours I have not been drawn right into the Inter Site Demo Game yet. It does not seem to have the same team dynamics, or it could just be that there are so many old hands there, that I have much to do to get to know them. Where as in the Horde there are only the 17 of us.

They mostly stopped because not enough different people played them, and because the turns started taking too long to play for some of us to play them on a regular basis - we played HUGE succession games, ie maxMapSize and 31 nations... 2 hour turns were common by 1ad if not before<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.

Sucession Games. Alot must take place in these games. A two hour turn pushes a few boundaries. No wonder they come to a halt. So they are not like the Civ III Demo game then?

No. A true Succession Game allows an individual the freedom to play a set number of turns the way they see fit. Then the next player is sent the game, and they play. Players might ask for suggestions but it is really up to the individual. It is also nice if players then tell the story of their turn.
Great fun. I'd love to play one.
