so whilst we wait for others (maybe)

    1. What map wil lwe use?

    2. Any special mods needed ?

    3. Which civ do each of our guinea pigs wish to choose?

I concur with possibly 5 players..I have had terrible success with -8- people doing anything

Ok, to get a sense of map size, I loaded up a standard map game I played. It had a goodly amount of water on it, and there were 103 total cities, without room for anymore.

Loading up the last HOTW4 save, I counted 206 cities, with room for a few more. So I don't think a huge map is good, but it looks like standard may be too small. But I find managing cities and large empires more tedious in Civ3 than Civ2. Especially because of the crippling corruption. Large empires are a ridiculous burden i've seen. In the few games I've played, I've actually moved to playing on small random maps, cause standard is too much crap to worry about. *shrug*

But we could do a large size map. What are the dimensions of that?

Although if we are going for 5 players, then we need a map that can fit 5 players. Not a map that can fit 10 players. Assuming a 30 city average, we should get a map to fit 150 cities.

I really don't know jack about Civ3 (i know how to play, but that's it) what are the dimensions of the randomly generated tiny, small, standard, large, and huge maps?

              From the CIVIII CONQUESTS EDITOR:

              Tiny-60 X 60
              Small-80 X 80
              Standard-100 X 100
              Large-130 X 130
              Huge-160 X 160

Ok cool, then we may want a large map for a 5 player game. Though I swear everything seems bigger in Civ3.

I'm totally down with a large map (maybe adjust luxury resources so that each area has something to trade) and Conquests sounds GRRREAT!!

Ok, first let's do a Players List, I'm thinkin' it looks like thus:

                            Grandpa Troll
                            Rasputin
                            Metaliturtle
                            OzzyKP
                            Dylan Baker

We need some awesome dude of the 5 to man up and Moderate, I work 60+ hours a week and am starting a NES already, so I don't really have the time. I'm thinking Ozzy or Grandpa Troll could do the first one (Once I'm back in school I could MOD a different Diplogame though)
First Master, Banan-Abbot of the Nana-stary, and Arch-Nan of the Order of the Sacred Banana.

If I may give you advice, don't take a too big mapsize. Corruption and waste are calculated in a way, that above a certain limit every new city will be almost totally corrupt. This means, if you play with 5 people on a map calculated for 8 civs and fill up all space, most of your cities won't add to your civ's wealth in any way, and you will be busy well into the medieval age (the most exciting one) to build them.

As the name "diplo" game suggests, your focus is certainly not to build all these cities, but to act as powers after this phase. So my advice is to use a small map (80x80) for 5 players.

You want in the game Ralph? Go for a 6 person game?

Raz, for some reason I am unable to post to the diplogroup. You think you could do an announcement about this game and try to implore all our Civ2 buds to try out this crazy Civ3 phenomenon.
