16 total in the game.
Jeff said it was editable, but the screens weren't setup for it, it might be like ctp were if you put it at 16 or so civs it would crash if you tried to change it . ill try to find the interveiw!
congrats splangy, i thought that statement was retracted somewhere along the line, but maybe i'm wrong.
ANYWAY, i love the idea of larger maps.
and get this, a larger world map means larger Deserts, larger mountain ranges.
the Himalayas might actually seperate China and India for quite a while now.
russia might have some very cold spots, the kind of places where you'd perfrer colonies over cities.
the deserts of the american west will be a free for all between the Americans Aztecs and Iroquois.
Question: sorry for not being up on my Native American History, but where would the Iroquois capital city be on a map of the US.
a state name would be good enough for me.

1- Aztecs will get ALL of central-south america
2- americans and iroquois are gona be slowin eachother down alot
3-russia will get poland-norway-far eastern asia-central asia!
5- france can cut the rest of europe off from iberia
6- egypt-persia are gona starve in there sandy homes
7- japan will get all of the pacific and austrailia if india dosent
8- and can you see the power of france coming to bear! imagine production+comercial, it can just rape europe
About your first reason, that's why I wanted the Incas to be included. If Firaxis were to include two Native American civs they should included Incas (South America) and Sioux (Western North America) and that would give US eastern North America. That would be evened out on the world map, it would be great if these two Civs would have been included in the game along with the Aztecs. Anyways, now that I started to think about having all of South America is that ideal. You're only gaining a huge mountain chain and a huge amount of jungle, wow. So that doesn't give the Aztecs a such a big advantage. Plus towards the north of them is desert.
Yes, the Americans and Iroquis will be slowing each other down but isn't this kind of realistic in a way. They were both being slowed down by each other in real life. Plus playing on a large map there should be some moderate seperation. I'd imagine that the Iroquis will start out in the northern New England (i.e. New York) area while the Americans will start out in the southern New England (i.e Washington DC).
So what the Russians get all the (civ) unhabital land.
Yes France can cut off everybody from Iberia but they will have fierce competion in trying to achieve that goal. Romans, Greeks, and Germans from the west and the English to the North, and possibly the Egyptians from the South.
The Egypt-Persia problem is a big problem, recently in Civ2 I played a European map game. I was the English, the other AI civs were Babylonians, Persians, Russians, Egyptians, French, and Indians (had to throw in another civ). The Egyptians evern by modern times only had around 5 cities and the Persians got defeated very early. So this is a most definite problem.
If Japan doesn't get all of the Pacific they will be very weak.
Your last topic has nothing to do with geography.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

i have some worries about the world map, there are several problems that i can forsee:
1- Aztecs will get ALL of central-south america
2- americans and iroquois are gona be slowin eachother down alot
3-russia will get poland-norway-far eastern asia-central asia!
5- france can cut the rest of europe off from iberia
6- egypt-persia are gona starve in there sandy homes
7- japan will get all of the pacific and austrailia if india dosent
8- and can you see the power of france coming to bear! imagine production+comercial, it can just rape europe
but i should probably wait for the game before complaining
1- that happens in civ 2. most of south america (in civ terms) is jungle / swamp, takes a while to colonize well / cross, AI usually avoids most of it.
2- Americans / souix do that in civ 2. and they should. and, not really. if the map is 6x larger both civs should be realitevly large by the time they meet / draw borders.
3- again, already happens in civ 2. and on the Europe map? forget it.
4- you forgot 4.
5- France really cant do that if u throw in the Romans / Greek / Germany / Spanish. oh yea. no spanish. pity.
6- Egypt and Persia would starve in civ2, but there are certain areas they can thrive. there is no Carthage in civ 3, so Egypt can take the north african coast (meddeterain climate), and Persia can either rape the babylonians and take the Fertile Crescent, or head north into turkey or southern russia.
7- Japan does get all the Pacific in civ 2, at least when i play as them, and they deserve it. it's hard to play as an island nation early in the game. sea squares arent kind to production early on.
8- personally, i don't see France being a threat with other European civs hanging around. also, being indust. and commercial (starts with masonry and Alphabet), they could be at the whim of the Roman Archers or Chariots, or the greek Phalanxes.
just because theyre rich and fast builders doesnt mean they can conquer their neighbors. and plus the french CSU comes later on in the game. the roman legion seems rather good for an early weapon.

So where did this info about an Earth map 6X larger come from??
Is it a sure thing or just a rumor?
I am planning on making a "contemporary world scenario”, so this would be a good map for me to do it on. Lot’s of work placing the cities though, but I don’t mind it should be worth the effort.
oh, on a euro map tech, the Babylonians and Persians go at it like dogs until one dies.
it's usually the babylonians. im suprised to her they beat out the Persians.
but with maps 6x larger, they might find a border suitable for them both.

I count seven
It would be almost impossible to create a 200 country scenario nevermind getting it to run on a computer. I agree there should be more 50 being about the best number. The countries should be divided up as they were in ancient times not as they are now, at least for the main game.
