If this civilization thing gives you this much of a headache then I should go back to my little valley in the Pyrenées where we only drink mountain water.

Iberian Delight, eh? Hmmm...nicely situated on Madrid's 1st Street, too. Nice place, ya got here...

I have a business proposition, Mr. F. Pro. I am the owner of the company which is the world's largest supplier of calamari, which is one of Spain's favorite foods (and because of this, my fortune has grown to tremendous proportions). I notice that the Iberian Delight does not get it's own supply of calamari, or squid as some of us call it, and I was wondering what you would say to a little deal, providing you with calamari, and me with...money...or free credit...?

Hmm, do you have any of that stuff we drink when we commune with the spirits...? I'm not sure what you would call it, the sound the spirits make when they describe it is so long and guttural I can't repeat it here...

Because of this damn tax policy of our esteemed leader Togas (whoops, I didn't say that) importing drinks has become very expensive. So if you give your calamari as a gift, I will give you as a gift free drinks at my bar. Gifts have low tax you see...

(clawing long mustache with bony fingers)

Heh heh, Compadre, that is excellent! I believe this to be the start of a beautiful squid/drink relationship.

                I'll have some...sherry!

Gastronome Neecap, my barbarian slave, will have a glass of squid milk. What? No squid milk? Why! He lives on the stuff. Ah well. Once we have this deal going, you'll have plenty of squid milk!

                  Business

My good F-PRO, I have a small wine business nearby, and I have some very good roman grape, and if you´d be interested, me might just agree on a fair deal about some high quality wine.
Why don´t you just put something on the table for, let´s say, 15 bowls of wine?
I´ll be waiting for the answer, and as we said in my former land, ´´Bonnu vinnu laetificas cor homnis´´(sorry if it is misspelled),

                    *F-PRO serves Hernan his sherry*

Nice doing business with you, Hernan. May you fare well with selling your squids and making a true squid trading empire!

*Turns his head to Nuclear Winter, and looks at him suspiciously*

Now, we don't like people talking some foreign mumbo-jumbo 'round here. So unless you clarify what that bannoh, vannoh... etcetera actually means, I'm not sure I will be willing to do business with you. For all I know, I could be dealing with a spy!

Attempts to circumvent the collection of taxes by barter make no difference to me. The tax will be paid through gold, belongings, or "voluntary" service to your leader.

Taxes will remain on all non-Iberian goods. This has been done to promote our culture and people who make them.

That's it for now. Please give me a bowl of your finest and a large platter of cooked calamari in breaded meal. If the service and food is good, you can forgo payment of taxes this week.

I will get you the best we have, Togas! We recently acquired delicious squids. They are on the house. The comment on taxes was a slip off the tongue, I never meant to criticize your magnificent regime .

Senor F. Pro, I thank you. I have arranged for these deals to go on as they are for a very, very, very long time. Vive la squid!

Senor Togas, speaking of squids, my annual fried calamari tribute should be arriving at any moment...
