  • Señor de la Civ.

I have heard your answers to my questions and your confession.

You have murdered the heretic GodKing, who was inflicted to exile. You taken away from him the chance to show repentance to the almighty God. You have violated the judgement of the Inquisition while you were carrying out a job for the Inquisition. You have revenged the death of your brother on the heretic GodKing and you have violated an oath sworn to God.

For this, Señor de la Civ, I should punish you heavily. Perhaps I should punish you with death. But I won't do so, even if the masses outside would demand that you be burned at a stake, I wont do so. Because as well as The inquisition had mercy on the heretic GodKing, I will have mercy on you. You have sinned, but the graceful God is always willing to grant you a second chance. So shall I do. To much blood has been shed since the killing of the heretic GodKing.

Your punishment contains dismissal from the Holy order of Paladins. You are condemned to preaching the pagans in this world under the lead of Cardinal Winterius, our Missionary Bishop, by that way you can atone your sins.
Because of this punishment the seal of the Holy order of Paladins will be taken from you as well as your paladin sword. You are no longer a paladin.

    Thus I have decided.

    • Evening settles on the Calamari house...

Cardinal Calamari emerges from his carriage. He stands up, sniffs the cool air, and pats the dust off his scarlet robes. He adjusts his beretta and goes inside.

It has been a long day. He walks up the stairs and into his room. There is a cool, clammy feel to the air up here. The Cardinal slumps into a chair, and removes his beretta, reaching for a loaf of bread, some fine cheese, and a glass of white wine.

My word. What a horrible day we've had all round.

First thing this morning came the bloody messenger with his scarlet letter, proclaiming to all the world that Torquemada had emptied his veins all over his house, and had been found drowned in a pool of his own blood.

Then, his son angrily becomes treasonous and is arrested.

Last, and by no means least, de la Civ is exiled to Voxia as a missionary!

This day has gone on for far too long...

Calamari pauses, staring into the fire, and chewing on a small piece of cheese...

What has been lost? Torquemada? The brash de la Civ?

I never much agreed with old Torquemada, but I must say, it's a damnable shame that he took his own life. I always used to enjoy our little games, you see. None of that in his son, of course, he's rather dull, and he'll be off to the block sooner than you can say it...

But Torquemada... One feels a strange melancholy when one loses an enemy. One wonders why one should consider a man an enemy when one finds it so hard to bare when he dies...

      Lord Jesus...what have I done?

Have I done this, My Lord? Have I killed him? Have I killed GodKing? Have I exiled de la Civ?

Has one decision, so clearly thought out and so just led to this inane butchery?

      Lord God...what have I done?

A thought crosses Calamari's mind, as if to say "You should not think so highly of yourself. Your decision meant nothing, and led to nothing."

      The feeling persists, though...

The Cardinal leaps forward on his knees...

      Speak, Lord...your servant is listening...

Poor GodKing. I fear he is damned. I did my best for him, I wanted that man saved so...

Why could he not be saved? Why did his soul have to be condemned?

Why can I do nothing? Are we all but impotent? Are we all but vain that we think we can do anything in this world?

Was GodKing marked like bitter Cain since birth? Was this your reason? Did I fail to recognize a dead man? Did I hope too much of him?

No. You would not have me think this way...would you?

You are the Lord God...you would see all men saved...

Calamari looks up at the humble crucifix he has hanging on his wall...

      I am sorry...

      What of de la Civ?

An honest man, I'd have thought. Perhaps, if he hadn't lied so...we would have understood...

Hatred is so strong in men. We are all filled with it from time to time. Torquemada hates Popes and Kings... O Lord! Why are we so foolish? No man need die by violence but for the hatred we have for each other! Suicide is a vile thing, and unnecessary...if we but had the love for one another that we are intended to, we should not see it...

De la Civ...has done what he has done. The murder was crude and foolish and mindless, but understandable...

But he condemned a man's soul!

      That cannot be done!!

There is a lingering moment of silence...

Forgive me, a thoughtless one...I am of no worth...if only I served You as well as I should...

If only we all did...if only we all loved You as we were commanded to do. We are blind, men, for we do not see the Creator who molded us for our father...

      Forgive me...

      Thank you, Father...

De la Civ is exiled...Torquemada is dead... Normal activity will resume...shortly...
      Empire growing,
      Pleasures flowing,
Fortune smiles and so should you.

      • OOC: This isn't the last you'll hear of the reckless member of the de la Civ family, but you'll get a break for him.

        Your Holiness Aidun,

I would like to, as a result of Roberto's exile, officially divorce him. At least right now I have no intention to marry anyone else, but I would like to be relieved of any obligations to him beyond the simple obligations between all people. I would also like to inform you that I intend to raise little Roberto together with Daniel de la Civ.

OOC: The more we hear from you, the better. You are a good roleplayer. BTW, you can let your son become paladin when he is fully grown up.

          Dear Caterina Ordonez,

It is not allowed to divorce form your husband, not in good times not in bad times. When you engaged in marriage with your husband you have sworn to the almighty God that you will always stay together, in good times and in bad times.

I understand that the punishement of your husband is a shock for you, but you have to find a way to live with this. After some years your husband might be released from his punishment if he has shown repentance from his sins.

I wish you strength to covercome these hard times.

          With kindest regards,

          Pope Aidun I

OOC: Why not start an affair with some other character? Staying at home while your husband is not there for several years is a perfect opportunity to start a relationship with another man.
