  • On second thought, no I won't. A bit more to say yet.

The bulk of our efforts need to be devoted to beating the force arrayed against us. Caught off guard as we were, we can't really afford to spend the resources yet on making our own counter....much as I'd dearly love to.

Not yet, would be my vote.

Let's trash the force arrayed against us, and then go for THEIR freakin' jugular.

Dissidentville is isolated, and far too much to the south to be anything other than a military staging area. Since it's isolated, at first opportunity, we need to take it out. I would put an even higher priority on that than on the iron colony, though not by much (that should be second, IMO). After that....we steamroll them....

We also gotta watch our flanks.

Lots of undefended cities down there, and it'd suck big time if a galley slipped by and they cheesed their way into one of our really BIG cities.

    • Agreed. Arashi is the key to the kingdom. We hold it, we win. We loose it, it's a whole other dog fight.

I think we have 1 Cat so far. Not sure how many get rushed this turn, if any. Pikes and upgrading our last 2 Warriors are higher priorities right now, I believe.

That is a neutral Galley north of Monsoon. Neutral for now. It belongs to the Glory of War and carries 2 Spear (according to their screen shot, which I don't trust) it was supposed to have 2 Horse (we agreed to allow them to explore the coast with a most 2 Horse cargo on all Gallies and they are not to have more than 1 Galley within 10 or so tiles of another). I fully expect them to land (which will start that war) when they see suitable pickings (very soon).

Right now I think it is cities without Barracks that are building cats. 2 are building Gallies, so with the GrLH, the sea should be ours soon.

Absolutely. We need garrisons in those coastal cities PDQ, but securing the front has been a higher priority and will be for a very few more turns. Meanwhile, WCs from Arashi can deal with any landing West of Bolderberg, and we have our first Western Galley next turn. 2nd 3 turns later.

        • Fourth thing: Arashi is key, and my bet is that they will try for the city, no matter what we put there. I feel this way because they will NOT want to leave a city full of our units at their backs while they probe deeper into our territory. Too much risk for them, so they will attack.
Very good point Vel and that's one the reasons I would like to see that WC(northern one) go forward.(even just tile)
If we are close withing striking distance (Iron, Dissville, even road) they will have to hold back some units.

            • Vel, have you taken a look at the "Thermopylae at A9 thread" yet? We're debating whether to make our stand in Arashi (creating a significant risk if they go around it) or to try to hold the mountain "9" on the keypad from it. (We've adopted the convention of using city names and keypad move directions to indicate locations.)

By the way, we only got one of the two immortals in Vox's attack that hemmed in our warrior, and our first attempt cost us a WC. Still, if it weren't for that, Vox would have four immortals threatening Hurricane instead of three, and they wouldn't have needed some galley time to get the other immortal from their surprise attack past us.

                  • One thing to keep in mind: the auto raze rules have changed in PTW (I think): If no cultural has been gained, and the city is at size 1, but was at size 2 before, it will not raze. So far, I don't think this means that Monsoon will raze (as it hasn't grown yet), but Sandstorm won't... it has reached size 2 before.

                    • Then we gotta keep them from getting that far south!

Not that I think they will.....having slept on it, I'm all the more convinced that we're making the right play here. Given our GA and the rate at which we can churn out units, they don't have time to go traipsing blindly thru our empire hoping to get lucky. Ashari (and possibly Monsoon) are their targets of opportunity, and they'll take them, hoping to crush our forces there early and demoralize us, cos they know that if war continues, our 13 cities will beat the pants off their 7 whipped, chained, and beaten cities. We're gonna roast them alive!

                      • Yeah, I'll feel a lot better about that prognosis once they get the hell off our mountains. I do not relish the idea of having to knock them off the mountains ourselves.

I hope like hell that they take their shot at Arashi, or do something really dumb like move out into the open.

But if they keep on coming straight south down the mountains, I'm distinctly uncomfortable about Tempest's prospects for survival.
