  • I still wish you told them you hog-tied me and locked me in the closet because I failed in my attempt to create trust between the two nations

    • I will send the turn in about 30 minutes.

      • BetaHound still hasn't read the message. Does anyone know a way to get his attention (he's online now) or do I need to send it to some other people on the team?

        • Nice work here, guys (I've been busy sleeping...)!

To piece everything together, am I right in understanding that we're basically saying: "Let us through the isthmus so that both our teams can explore each other's territory"?. If so, I'm fine with this. I expect them to object, however, since we assume they are trying to keep us away from that other team. What they should really do if they want to keep us seperated is simply withdraw their forces and hold the isthmus. If they persist in wanting their cake and eating it too, we should get ready for some Warrior on Warrior fighting.

Perhaps you should PM their players (Eli and Dissident), that BetaHound has received a diplomatical note that requires a response within this turn, and that he didn't even read it yet. You might express our displeasure to be neglected in this way.

I've seen them discuss shortly after you sent the message. BetaHound, Jon Miller and Eli have posted in the PTW-DG forum shortly one after the other, but not in the public forums. I was pretty sure they discussed our offer.

            • May be we should resend the note to the more reliable team members.

              • Copies sent to Eli and Dissident with an explanation in front of the original message, but they aren't online now to read it. Any other ideas?

                • Typical

This has been typical of our real communications. Th cordial "hi how do you do?" stuff turned around within 24 hours, but the second we send them somethong real, they do not even confirm recieving the message. I wonder if they ae delaying for a reason (subterfuge and inevitable invasion) or just being plain rude.

I am telling you, I have this feeling that they picked persia for a reason, that reason being immortals. They intend on using them, likely on us.... We pose a real threat if we make it out of the ancient era. I do not think that they will let us. I would not be suprised if they are drumming up support with their other contact fo an all out invasion....

                  • I agree with MSS... we need to assume the worst.

In the meantime, another thought occurs to me: do we even need to explore past the isthmus for now?

We're certainly not going to find any good huts or barbs, and we're a long time off from needing terrain intel for an attack.

Thus, the only major gain would be contacting another civ. That is a MAJOR thing for us, clearly, if only to drive down the cost of BW.

My point is though, rather than "force" Vox to let us through, can;t we just convinve them to trade us communications instead? Mightn't that be more palatable to them?

                    • Wouldn't that take writing first?

                        Sorry, that was dumb.

Yes, we are not like the bugged AI , we cannot trade contacts until writing.

                          • I really think that they need to be wiped out BEFORE they hook up iron.

Granted without BW it would be difficult. We will need those WCs as we should have the wheel soon, but what about Warrior Code for the archers. and a subsequent rush?

                            • There is no way we wipe them out before they hook up Iron. Actually, there is no way we're not going to be fighting Immortals if a war breaks out. I would go so far as to say there is no way we're getting rid of Vox until the Middle ages. The map geography favors them that much.

Even with Writing, Vox would be silly to give us Comms to the other civ, no matter how sweet we make the deal.

We can defend our lands easily enough, let us concentrate on that for the time being (and cross our fingers for a peaceful settlement).

                              • Since they prefer to bully us instead to cooperate, I have absolutely no qualms to send a couple of galleys later through their territorial waters. If they send protest notes, just ignore them, or reply with stupid quotes from nonexisting books like they do now with us. This way I bet we get our contacts before the medieval age.
