    from Aeson

Thanks for the invite, but I'd have to decline. I have no desire to be involved in Civ MP, demogame or otherwise.

Sounds like you are doing well. I read about Copernicus and ToE in the public forum. Figured you'd get Hoover with ToE too. Outside that I have very little idea of what is going on. I have no access to Civ III at this time, so wouldn't be much help with planning anyways.

The bad blood on the public forum is ancient history, and after a long peace, the Storm is Gathering! I think you'd find it a stimulating challenge, Aeson, and the team would be beside themselves with joy if you rejoined.
This may be in no small part to my leaving GS. GF (along with a few others on GoW) and I have a very difficult time discussing anything due to conflicting styles of posting and reasoning. Most of the conflict (as far as I'm concerned) really didn't have anything to do with what was happening in-game. (witness the Feudal Demogame )

    -----------

Good luck with the invasion... Hit them hard somewhere along the coast, bring some Cavalry to check inland and keep them honest... maybe a few Explorers too, to rip up some improvements if a critical resource is exposed, and/or to scout out any empty interior cities to strike with the Cavalry.

Krill, what do you mean with advertising for a new team? fresh blood?

For me that's fine, however I doubt it's going to be very effective. Aeson was ideal because he already knows the situation (well, apart from how far we are in research) but others will have to read a lot of stuff before they're able to jump in.

As to Aeson: I expected this, unfortunately. Him not having Civ3 atm doesn't even matter, he could just as well work from a screenshot. It's the past public forum that got to him, he is not someone who can let go when he sees, in his eyes, unjustice. Too bad, as he's a great guy

D, if you can get us into mob asap, then there is nothing else other than attacking Lego, defending a possible invasion, and backstabbng GoW.

Other than ND, but that is another story. The rest of the game can be split into smaller segments. eg, Lego could counter attack after they have about 20 tanks, and take a few cities, but we end up crushing them.

ATM, it seems like there are less than 10 people on this team. DeepO, CH, Arrian, and Sleepy, Vulture, me (and maybe T), but we need a few more people, if only to offer advice and plans. I can vouch for one player, whom I have alredy asked, and has agreed to join. I play alot of PBEMs with him. i know it will not be effective, but i doubt that we can win the war if 4 people advise about the use of the army.

well, there is someone we have so far neglected a bit, and that's our president... maybe it's time to ask nye to step up, if he has the time.

Krill, you know the procedure for new members: post a poll, with a white ball / black ball affair, one black ball is enough to keep him out, but in practice we welcome everyone in.

After that, a PM to nye to ackowledge his request for entry is enough...

Oh, and personally, I really would love more opinions and plans, but this game is going for too long, it's normal things fade out. We're nearing 2 years of play here!

We really do not have all that many options. I know there are a few players that could play optimially, but I doubt much variation is now left.

We are commited to an attack and a time. We have very few choices as to what to build. We may have a bit of leeway as to how to deploy them, but after that it is mostly RNG and our allies.

If it was a case of gearing up for a war in 100 turns from now, then by all means get one of the better generals, but it is not where we are now.

We have a number of past players that could be useful, but they do not want to step up at this time.

The big question to me is how will Lego react. If they decide they cannot beat all the allies, will they choose togo all out to get us or one of the others or just take the tactic that will get them the best chance to survive? If they go all out for one team or the other that team will be the next one to go down more than likely as they will take a big hit.

In any event, I for one, wil be glad to see it come to a head soon. I also feel quite confident that DeepO and CH can run the show just fine. I know DeepO goes way back in CivIII and understands it.

              Go team.

This is true. The sad thing is, if Lego thinks about it, they know what's coming.

hrmm... I suspect that the moment they spot us mobilizing, they will do the same, or at least start building lots of defenders. They know GoW is with us, as we're faster in research. So it may not be such a losing fight for them, they do have the biggest production, and are on the defense. Add to that drafting once they are invaded and see the extent of our troops, it will be difficult.

The one thing we can do to prevent them from going straight for us, is making GoW a juicier target. We currently have a problem here: they have lots of naval transports in our sea. We need to destroy these before they get ideas of launching an invasion on their own. Further, we need to land in such a way that, in case they want to deal with one beach head at a time, GoW gets all of the troops hurled at them. Which means bombardment and pillaging as crazy.

We have not won this war yet, not in a long time.

In any event, I for one, wil be glad to see it come to a head soon.
                Agreed in full.

Thanks, but that is not the main problem. While I'm no general, it wouldn't be hard to draft up a plan, and start implementing that. But first of all, this is a team, and second of all: I'm strapped for time. I do not want to put all of my free time in this game, and burn out completely. From time to time, it's already a burden, even if in general I still enjoy it. I'm pretty sure of one thing: I will probably not last until Lego is beaten, and another war is fought... not even as turnplayer, let alone as (co-)general.

I think we need to go over what exactly went right in the vox war and what exactly went wrong in the bob war and see if we can apply those lessons. Those wars took place probably 6 months and a year ago, fuzzy in my mind. I'll do some digging this weekend (when I'm off work and alone at home)

Would it be ok if I rejoined GS as mainly an observer of the game? I can't get involved much, but would be interested in seeing what is (or has been) going on.
                    my reply ...

                    Yes, Siree!

btw, we're doing this without Cavalry - we took a decision long ago not to bother with Mil Trad and we've never had Saltpeter. Knights are being melted down to shave turns off new units.

If you click the join link I'll PM NYE to authorise you.

                                Welcome home, Aeson!

As for myself... I would love nothing better than to give my all to the team again, except... work is going harder than it used to. Nothing I can do about that without selling the business. Also, I am involved with testing a certain product, which shall remain nameless, which I am sure all of the people on this team would want to see have all the TLC given to it that it deserves. That is where almost all of my free time (and a bit more) goes now.

However, if you want an opinion on a situation, I would be happy to look in and give what advice I could.

As to what went right vs Vox and what went wrong vs ND and GoW...

Nathan ran things against Vox. There was discussion and he took opinions into account. Oh the lengths he went to to take opinions into account, BUT... he had the final say and he went with it when needed.

I blame myself more than anyone else for the Bobian fiasco. I was playing the turns. I was too timid. The turn that we lost the combat settler and a largish portion of our army in the hills of Southern Spain, I followed orders imperfectly even though I did not feel fully comfortable with what I understood of them. I lost the war on Bob. Nobody else did. I was the player, I held the trigger, and I pulled it.

Learn the lesson. Give the player room and insist that he take it. Leave one of us, or two if they share a lot, to make the final life and death decisions. Make sure they are comfortable with it and that they know it is their call in the end. Advise them, let them play the game, and let them win for all of us.

That is exactly the form of leadership which allmost all of the players from all of these teams adopted when the ISDG got underway. It worked. We clawed our way out from a jungle start to overcome not one but two neighbours with superior positions to us. That is the key to success in these games. Yes, it is a democracy, and everyone should have a say, but when it comes down to it, one of us has to move the pieces turn by turn, and one of us is paying more attention than most others combined. Let the players play, and make sure they know it is their call in the end... after much discussion, of course!
