I am happy to announce that BOG has now finished building the Statue of Zeus in El Hak-ala-Hak-el-Hak.
We recommend everyone else to Panick.
It won't make much difference though, except to keep our ACs amused. Which is all for the best as you *really* don't want to meet them when they're angry.
In case I wasn't being perfectly clear earlier, I'm with Paddys gang. Looking forward to playing *with* him for a change. I think I have a substantial lead in killed units btw, while Paddy has razed more cities.
Im with Snoopy in advocating AP it does speed the game up

Thanks for your response snoopy, and keeping an open mind on this issue.

I think more than 2 settlers is actually a good idea - I'm thinking 6 settlers 3 warriors, which means 3 size 3 cities to start with. (Takes a good amount of money to start with of course)
That seems like overkill to me. One of the most interesting parts of Civ3 even in PBEM is the early-game, where you have to balance exploration, research, defense, expansion, etc. Your proposal would all but eliminate this phase from the game.
I guess we're both envisioning different ways this game will/should play out: you want large armies, large empires, and a big bloodbath; I want few cities, less room, and strategic play. Both our setups lend for a quick game. In fact, I would argue that with 70-80% water (and maybe 6 teams) the game would go a lot faster. Sure, it might end before the Industrial era, but that's fine, CIV will be out way before then. Pushing a lot of units around just makes turns take longer and does not (for me at least) improve the PBEM experience.
And that's my 0.02$.

I reiterate.....AP will spoil this game. I'm for either 2 or a maximum of 3 settlers, 80% water and lots of close contact between our teams.
Bring it on!

so Dominae, I hear what you are saying about your starter pack and map size, just where do you stand on the AP issue?
With the map settings I proposed above, I think the game will move along fast enough that AP will not be needed.
Fight early, fight often, keep the turns moving.
Note: I do not condone violence.

I just did a quick scan through the thread and have discovered two things.
Thing Number 1 - There sure are a lot of windbags in this game. They're called "posts" not "term papers".
Thing Number 2 - AP loses big time in a popularity contest. Only Paddy, Snoopy and OPD want such a feature. MCMeadows, 1889, Bongo, Aqua, Domine, Solomwi, and Krill say no way.
Regardless of whether the game ends on time or not, I find that no AP is more fun. I also think the game will be plenty fast with 4 team members available to play. Discuss your strategy then let whoever is available play the turn.

Hear hear, old fella......it's pretty clear. AP is dead in this game before it's started. The thread has spoken! Long live the thread!!!!
