). Great starting spot. Availability for techs to research was the biggest hold up - and i could have made some better choices along the way if i had remembered that would b e a problem earlier. For example, I bypassed flight several times, and I think it may have cost me 2 turns, since i got fusion power very early. I was stuck researching several of post-space flight techs pre-flight, and i was still able to easily get 2 turn techs while building the space ship, while buying modules outright. I had 8 freights, and didn't use a single 1, still built the ship in minimum time. I also held off researching literacy once and that delayed republic by 2 techs, when techs were slow in coming. That one error there was probably more than the 5 turns that Paul beat me by. As usual, I had to research feudalism, chivalry and leadership - haven't looked yet but I bet others were able to trade for those. I somehow managed to ally with 5 of the AI's this game, keeping 4 throughout (took me a while to make contact with a couple AI), and never was attacked by anything other than stray barb units, who never got close to the city (helped having all those starting units
) With all the mountains, i was able to dictate what terrain the barbs fought upon for the most part. Always had way too much gold because of it, and was able to buy all sorts of structures with greater ease. I just now realized i never sold my sewer system or aquaduct - i was never even close needing to do that. Thats about it for first thoughts.
At least there is Tours and Marseilles in between now
