14 German divisions annihilated outside Kaunas! Apparently their commander wasn’t aware that seven Russian infantry divisions were fortunately on the roads outside Grodno, en route to the front at Bialystok. They, along with the garrison for Grodno itself, launched swarms of brave suicidal attacks on the German forces south of Kaunas, and then they destroyed nine whole divisions stacked just west of it. It is believed (hoped) that these 9 units were the bulk of the German artillery forces on the eastern front, as there was no infantry escorting them.
We do not have the capability to make major offensives yet, and perhaps not even enough to take Kaunas back, but this victory has probably bought us a years worth of time on the defensive.
Scouts also report that an Austro-Hungarian offensive is descending on Lemberg. As Russia doesn’t have the technology necessary to build fortifications for the city, our forces have withdrawn to a line at Zhitomir which they hope to hold.Comment
