2001 Players Tourney, Round 1: Group B - Markus (Host), Deity, Hydey, Makeo
I have to say that there has been excellent sportsmanship in this game.
Markus could have taken out my cap very early on with units from huts and apparently Makeo could have done the same with Hydey!
Also Makeo could have had a good shot at my cap some time later but resisted
As it turned out Markus and I are allied;
and Makeo and Hydey are allied - quite ironic, but I think it dispells Markus fear that it's a 3:1 gang up on him!
I had no luck with huts though and trail very badly in the pg and city stakes. I'm going to have to play a good game from here to not get knocked out of the Tourney!
Hydey is doing well. I always said he was a good and under rated player. Hold that buck Raz!
Makeo bolted to a tech lead as I understand it but Markus got the only two Wonders including Leo's by 150BC.
Those two are way in front with cities and pg.
We all started quite close really and MP interaction was evident from the outset - good one Cavebear

On behalf of the OPTUS@HOME network I would like to apologize to Markus, Makeo and Deity.
Hydey could not connect to the internet until after 11 o'clock, 1 1/2 hours after start time.
Please feel free to disbelieve me and check with Optus@home. I am sure they will confirm that they had problems.

Deity asked if I could play on Saturday (aussie time) starting at about 10 am, I will be unavailable on Saturday from 11:30 am to about 2 pm while I take my son to his basketball game. I am happy to start early and ply up till 11:30 or start at 2 and play for the rest of the day.
Failing that I can play when ever on our Sunday (as long as the ****ing cale is working)

OK, we played our second session in the normal Sat night time slot.
Things got much better for me. I'm now 2nd in the pg with only 18 cities; so from a crappy start and bad huts I'm back in the running IF the pg means anything
It's an interesting game with no war so far. We have two alliances which were declared BEFORE we knew of Cavebears ruling on NO alliances. So, as CB says, we now need to continue on the basis of alliances. IE:
Makeo and Hydey
against
deity and Markus
at the moment.
Makeo led with techs, I believe, and appears to have gone for a super growth strat with around 23(?) cities now. His cap is Size 26(?) I think, when all other civs are not over 12's yet in 600+AD. But Makeo's unit count is down... he must be up to something though
His ally Hydey has SunTzu and 18 cities.
Markus leads the pg with 30+ cities, 70+ units and a good few Wonders, but no one chasing Wonders in this game it seems.
A game with Makeo involves a certain amount of war paranoia

I must say I much prefer diplo games where politics and manipulating diplomacy plays a greater part.
A normal civ game can get a bit technical but civ is still the best game around!
