Fine. 4-5 hours sounds well to me.
Good way to decrease that uncertainity you mentioned is to postpone a game for an hour or two.
I suggest we start about 20.00 CET.
    What do you guys think?

BTW, I think 20.00 CET is 14.00 Apolyton time and if I understood Dave correctly he'll try to be on-line 13.00 Apolyton time.

          So I'll be on-line from 13.00 Apolyton time too (= 19.00 CET).

Hope I got that down right.

A fun session; we played up to AD 600. So far this has been a warmonger's game, although no cities have changed hands (that I know of, that is). Everyone seems to be digging in, with de facto boundaries established on the main landmass.

            Wonders built:

Vikings (Carolus Rex) Colossus, Great Library
Aztecs (SmartFart) Pyramids, Great Wall, Michaelangelo's Chapel
Americans (DaveV) Hanging Gardens, Sun Tzu's War Academy, Leonardo's Workshop, Lighthouse

Gee Dave, I didn't realize it was that much fun?

This is going to be a very difficult game for me, struggling to not fall too much behind.

Seems that the action is taking place somewhere else? Makes perfect sense, though. Who paid any attention to Andorra in world politics during the cold war?

Was researching Masonry, put taxes to max. Stole 4-5 techs hoping to get it and save the beakers for Engineering or even Invention. No such luck, now I'm going to swarm you guys with mighty warriors!

My long post vanished,so here is another one.

                      I made 2 fatal mistakes.

                      1st... i didn't realized Dave's ICS-ing until 4th session.

2nd... i let him have Lighthouse (this one sealed my fate).

With veteran triremes, production in my core cities was hopeless crippled by horde of diplomats. I could have Cope's next turn, but only place where it really could do some benefits was my capital and unfortunately for me,it was a coastal city. Cope's w/o library and uni isn't much.
I was pretty much shocked seeing CR picked 1st Colossus, then GL instead of Lighthouse, but again...my fault.
I should switch my MC into Lighthouse, but i didn't want to lose 150 shields just like that.
My last hope was that ocean left of me separate myself and CR. Wrong. There was a big island which Dave just started to colonize and on that point i decide to throw in the towel.

                      Excellent playing and congrats.

Yeah, Lighthouse was a key wonder for me - it was a lot easier to build vet triremes, instead of hoping I could win a sea battle for the STWA upgrade.

                        Better luck next time!

To build Lighthouse you need Map Making, to have Map Making you need to research it. I didn't. Why?

I raced for Leo's as my first wonder when HG, MC and GW were built, had 12 caravans ready. Only chance was stealing Masonry, Construction (which I did) and Engineering. I only got non-Leo techs, slowing down my research. The cure?

First, I decided to build Colossus to speed up my research although I wasn't happy about it with only size 1 and 2 cities. But with the extra 4 caravans and no Map Making I saw no alternative.

Second, the GL. Figured you were heading for LW as well and that there was extensive stealing going on on your part versus Dave.

That being said I must admit I thought from the early game that the Lighthouse wouldn't be important in this game (see post above about Viking Long Ships). In the game we started yesterday, however...

I thot this might be the case. I haven't established an embassy with you,so i didn't know anything about your tech tree. Don't get me wrong...i am not complaining. I just tried to resume my mistakes.
Since Dave grabbed STWA and me GW,i presumed you'll go after Lighthouse ASAP and dominate the seas.
I thot you've choosed religious path like me,because both Constructions and Engineering were white on Dave's tech info.
If i just had an embassy with you,i would definitelly switch my MC city into Lighthouse, especially when i stole trade from Dave.

                            Anyway.....i enjoyed myself
See you both on tuesday,18:00 CET

I would if I had realized there were some seas to dominate.

When you check with your own science advisor any techs in white means you've discovered them first. When you have established an embassy with another player the techs in white in his tech tree are the ones you don't have yourself. It doesn't mean that the player got them first, although in this particular case I'm pretty sure this was so.
