Looking at the results, two things surprise me.
One, all the deity selections. Reading in the thread made be believe that a lot of people played at a lower difficulty level.
Two, all the villages only people. Didn't know that many people were afraid of barbs.It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I play small maps - we got rid of barbs because whilist we liked the cash it tended to unbalance the game. Someone would be in a barb hell or conversely raking in the cash.Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Yeah, but it's a trade off. You build better defense/offense to handle barbs and you get more kings. The only problem is when you build up and then don't get them. When I spend the extra resources to defend, it's nice that if other people don't they might pay the piper.

it is my belief that in 1x1x barbs can totally unbalance the game. if you get early barbs, say archers they can mess your civ up pretty good.
in 2x its easy to control barbs because you can just spit out the units.
1x1x you actually have to account for every tiny shield you get. scrounge those shields.
