Thanks Hydey, I was hoping you'd see this.

But I would like to post the various forms of gamesave available to me through my ZipIt utility so we don't have to go through this every time I take a turn. -Jrabbit's future succession gaming (not to mention a quick series of +1 posts) may be at stake.

I tried to upload as a compressed (Zipped) PC exe file, but got this message from Mother Poly...
    - - - - -
    Forum Message
You have attempted to upload an invalid type of attachment. The valid extensions for attachments are: gif jpg png txt zip bmp jpeg slc net sav scn hot rar wav doc rtf
    - - - - -
    Oddly, the extension is... zip
Says that should be fine but won't take it. Hmmm

OK, first try was in fact, a .exe file and that's illegal.

My self-extracting archive ( .sea ) is illegal too, so that won't do.

The file in the previous post (Sticky 225bc.zip) should be OK, but it is in essence the same one I previously uploaded, with a simplified name.

OK, one more, then I'm done.

PLEASE SGs, try to d/l these files and tell me which version works in your strange, mysterious, Gatesian world.

It would be really cool if this one would prove to be workable. All this is , is a normal Mac MGE savegame, renamed and with a ".sav" appended.

Too easy for it to be right, but what the heck...

Hydey Just managed to open your (Jrabbit) file to look at the game. What did you do to make it work?

I would appreciate any feedback from the group on what file type I should be posting. I know it means tedious extra download time for you, but I heard Allah will reward the faithful with a boutiful harem in the afterlife, so why not give it a shot.

Seems to have worked for Hydey...

OK - I too have now unzipped -Jrabbit's original
'zip' file using PowerArchiver - but it failed using Winzip 8 which is the 'industry standard' strange world ...

As a Macuser too, I often swich files from PC to Mac and the reverse.
CivIIMac saves files with a long name as "President Alexander 1931 AD" and not "al_1931a".
We have to shorten and simplify the name (many signs are forbidden on DOS/Win, as on MacOS, only the ":" is illegal !), then to add the old century extension .sav, and to post it or to compress it.
In Mac world, the standard is Stuffit, on PC ZIP. But there are good utilities on each platform : ZipIt works on Mac, and AlladinExpander for Windows (and Mac) is far better than Winzip for expanding or decoding any kind of file (zip, sit, cpt, sea, gz, hqx, bin ...).
The only more complex situation is when CivMac does not know directly a PC sav file : Modifying type and creator of a file needs a specific app (there are freewares and sharewares for it).
This post is long but may be usefull for some Mac gamers.

NetZIP still says the zips are corrupt, and MGE says Hydey's sav isn't a save file (yes, I renamed it to a valid DOS name). I tried Jrabbit's sav and it would only d/l 13k and then drop out. Download Accelerator usually prevents that sort of thing.

I'll retry from MSIE… (forgive me, God)

MSIE says that the d/l can't be performed because of user settings or file is not available from server. I don't believe I have any of MSIE's "protection" features active.

                          save game

I can't get itto any of those files from -jrabbit and when I try the first one again it does not work anymore

I did keep the file I first managed to open and loaded the game and the resaved in a more suitable format.

                          So try this straybow.

13K was the compressed file size. The full file was 130-some K.

                              NOTE TO ALL --
I'm really, really sorry for the high-maintenance nature of my participation. I've played before -- in a Julius game, I believe -- without problems. If it's better that the group move on without me, I have no problem with that.

Mea culpa to all, and to all a good night.

Dont worry -Jrabbit...we all learn something from these problems; with succession games this comes with the territory
