  • RED FRONT 1.4 Demogame?

    Greetings Comrades!

I have been thinking and discussing a perhaps new idea, mixing diplomacy type games with a sort of PBEM style mixed into a favourite scenario.

I talked a bit with Henrik, and we think this might have a bit of potential here: I am talking about a game of RedFront 1.4 whereby we have several players involved in the game performing various tasks and roles. We model the command structure after Stavka or somesuch, and go about conducting war on the Ostfront.

Perhaps we include 'Front' commanders, whereby a player is in charge of the defense of an area and gets full reign of how to fight in that sector. He then reports to the higher commands such that an overall picture may be obtained of the situation at the frontlines.

Requests for munitions and units etc get passed to the higher ups, who perhaps pass the info onwards to a armaments minister who directs the flow of refugees and the entire Ural moutains factory complexes.

We have votes regarding majour decisions, such that a concensus might be reached, so we all feel that the outcome of the war might hinge on the performance of various Front Commanders. We have a science minister whos job it is to maximize the science output of the Union , or to maximize ruble collection... however he is directed by Stavka.

We elect a Marshal to coordinate the entirety, also to keep players playing and fix any realworld problems encoutered.

I have never played a Demo game, and I am sure there are a few things we are forgetting. I know this would require alot of posts from commanders to other commanders, maybe someone from the Demo circut could fill us in on certain particulars.

So, if you are interested post up. Lets try to iron out any kinks in this, and see if we might be able to beat back the huns. Also, this isnt't going to be a fast moving game, thats not the intention. So those who want turns to be played by the hour needn't apply.

    Who's game?
HTower has told me that if we manage to get enough peopel interested an involved, we might be able to secure our own forum devoted to this game. That would make this very fun. Genreally the 'rule' for something like this is 20 people, we're almost there.

This list will be updated, and any bigtime info needed for the game will be found in this first post as well.

    Positions
    • Marshal In charge, defines the different fronts of battle and who commands them. Controls where reinforcements and labour brigades go. He is the first and last person to play the game in a turn. Reports enemy movements upon new turns.
    • Front Commander In charge of defending his particular area of the front. The immediate superior is the Marshal. In charge of production in cities under his control, basically for resupplying his Front immediately, makes total Ruble request to Economic Minister for approval.
    • Economic Minister In Charge of the Science, tax, lux rate. In charge of assigning specialists to all cities. Controls the Caucauses Oil Fields. Must give approval for use of the rubles in rush buying by the Front Commanders and Armaments Minister. Controls the movement of Lend-Lease Program freight once they land in Murmansk. Reports to the Marshal.
    • Armaments Minster In charge of the Ural Mountains Industrial Complex of cities and the production of those not directly under control of a Front commander (these western cities like Tula and Orel etc will eventually be occupied by Commanders, negating duty). Controls what is produced. Controls workers and labor brigades within the region for maximum output. Must gain the agreement of the Economic Minister to spend money out of the national treasury. Reports to the Marshal.
    • Propaganda Minstry Consists of a Minister position (editor) and and newspaper (Pravda). Creates a map of the current war, records historical events and human intrest/ patriotic stories. These are several open positions for those who would like to be various types of journalists, though there is the chief editor of the newspaper, as Minister of Prop. Reports to the Marshal.
    • STAVKA Council of the Marshal and all Front Commanders for deciding Grand Manouvers. Ability to oust the Marshal with a coup vote. Partcipation from entire non-playing goup here.
    • Supreme Soviet Council of the Marshal and Economic and Armaments Ministers to organize all non-military affairs and Wonder building, assigns a wonder to a region, reccommending a city site, allocating funds. Declares the tech path for new research. Partcipation from entire non-playing goup here.
    • 1 Marshal (elected)
    • 6 Front Commanders
    • 1 Economic Minister (elected)
    • 1 Armaments Minister (elected)
    • 1 Propaganda Minister (elected)
    • +? Pravda Journalists
    • +? STAVKA
    • +? Supreme Soviet
    • 10 + Total

Army Fronts from North to South
    • Murmansk Front Streches from Viipuri to Murmansk and includes convoy duty from the U.K. to Murmansk
    • Baltic Front Defends Riga, Pskov, Tallinn, Novgorod,Narva, Luga and Leningrad
    • Northwest Front Defends Daugavpils, Vilnius, Velikiye Luki Kholm.
    • Belorussian Front Defends Brest-Litovsk, Minsk, Bialystok, Vitebsk
    • 1st Ukrainian Front Defends Kiev, Lvoy, Kirovgrad, Kharkov
    • 2nd Ukrainian Front Defends Odessa, Kishinev, Nikolaev, Kherson, Perekop, Kerch and Sevestopol

      Order of Play
The Marshal begins the game and has the duty of reporting what happens during the AI's turn. moves reinforcements to the front from rear cities

Everyone else plays their part, each time posting the new save to the forum in a designated thread for the next person to play his part.

Once everyone is done, the Marshal ends the turn. Makes German counterattack report. (perhaps to published in Pravda)

      Government Changes
I'd like to see our first Marshal elected, changes would require a coup, (STAVKA votes to overthrow the marshal.) basically for unworthy leadership abilities.

ooh, ooh! me too! me too!

I should mention that the civ2 demo game community has been knocking around the idea of playing a scenario next, our current game should be over inside of this month, and we haven't decided what to do next. I have to say that our community has shrunken severely, and it would be great if we could get some new blood in the group.

Oh yeah, and we're going to need a seperate forum for this, the elections alone will take at least 4 threads by themselves, not to mention different sections of the front, production, labor brigade threads, who gets new units, etc, etc

                I love the idea!

Emissary between two groups of Civ2 people

Let the two great people's of Civ2 Democracy Game and Civ2 Scenario League/Civ2-Creation become one! Let us join together to bring this great idea to fruition! As the overpromoted member of one group and peon of the other group, I straddle both groups and wish to bring peace and harmony between us!

Seriously though, the current civ2 democracy game should be over by the end of march, and we've (the civ2 dg people) have been discussing a scenario for our next game.

I went ahead and pitched the idea to them here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=80058

The added benefit of doing this with the demo game people is that they have a ready made forum to use and we wouldn't need to go asking for a forum of our own.

Thanks HTower, it really sounds like it can be some good fun! I am glad we are discussing this bit that we are discussing online here on AIM Good things could come of it.

Welcome to all those interested as well! Such a quick response. We'll have to wait on a few things here before we decide on whats to happen. Worked out a few house rules so none of us cheat ingame as well. Nothing drastic. Most of this we should have a concensus for. We'll do all kinds of voting to set it up, and make sure we all are playing our part.

Count me in as well (preferably as a front commander, though I'm not choosey).

Are we planning on using an unmodified version of RF 1.4, or will some modifications be made?
