  • Spaceship Poll

What size/speed ship do we want to build? In general, the faster the ship, the more effort and gold it takes to build it. But the faster the ship, the less time there is for the other civs to do anything to stop it (like kill our Capitol).

These are the ones I know about... If you know of another one and want to argue for its use, feel free.

The first number is SS Structurals. The numbers follow the order of the first 6 lines of the SS diagram (f12).

then why does the smaller, faster ship have fewer structurals than the 9 year ship? doesn't it need more structurals to connect all the components?

I would assume that the additional 2 Structurals and the 2 each fewer Components of Propulsion and Fuel combine to slow the larger ship down a bit.

I didn't suggest the larger is a *better* ship, just that it is a fully functional one (100% chance of success). It's handy to know even the poorer ships in case you overshoot your target for Structurals by accident (it' happens).

Fast ship is better. I assume that building more Modules is a non issue (i.e. we're going for earliest landing, not highest score)?

has anyone ever had a ship crash in Civ II? seems like we had several discussions about that a couple of years ago and no one could remember an instance. Now Civ I is different, you could launch with a 0% chance of success IIRC

Then why not launch a 1;1,1; 1,1,1? Maybe it would take a century or two, though. I have to admit that I always assumed the the success percent actually meant something.

I can't remember where the threshold is, but until you have a certain degree of 'connectivity' among the structurals/components/modules, the "LAUNCH" button doesn't appear on the spaceship screen.

I believe that the space ship does not crash in civ 2, but the total points you get are reduced by the proportionate chance of success. EG: 80% chance of success means 20% less space ship points.
