  • Apollo Program Poll

CAPITOL can build the Apollo Program in 10 regular turns, and that seems about right for our needs, but we could always rush it if needed sooner.

Apollo costs 600 shields and CAPITOL produces 61 per turn. There is little left that CAPITOL needs and it cannot grow or celebrate WLTPD. It would be nice to see the whole map, and we certainly need it eventually.

I doubt that one of the other civs would build it for us, anyway. rolleyes:

Question A: To build now or not...
Question B: If build, where to build...
Question C: If build, how fast to build...

    28
    A. Yes, I want to see the whole world anyway
    32.14%
    9
    A. No, we should wait until we *must* build it
    3.57%
    1
    B. If Yes, in CAPITOL?
    25.00%
    7
    B. If Yes, someplace else? (name it)
    0.00%
    0
    C. If Yes, built in regular turns?
    14.29%
    4
    C. If Yes, "Rush it"?, (I wanted it yesterday)
    17.86%

I think we should build it sooner rather than later so we can get a jump on producing SS parts (Listens for JRabbit to proclaim "Why wait to build it? The end is in sight!") It doesn't matter than much where we build it if we use freights, although we are down to 24 freight, only 14 are food and only 2 freights are in production. With CAPITOL, it would only take 11 freights straight up in 1 turn. Given that there are now only 2 uncompleted WoWs (Apollo and Manhattans), its a good thing we are researching Nuclear Fission, because we can't incremental buy SS parts without it

My only concern about rushing it in CAPITOL is that it seems a shame to waste the 61 shields CAPITOL produces in a turn. We could rush it elsewhere at less shield waste. Or we could let it build a few turns and then rush it for fewer Freights.

      I suggest:

      1. If we Freight-rush it at once, a different city (Seville?)
      2. If we let it build normally, CAPITOL
      3. If we build normally a few turns and Freight-rush it then, CAPITOL (but there are still those 61 lost shields)

My vote was for option 2.

And someone might want to discuss what the AI civs gain from Apollo (don't they also "see the world"?). I don't recall all the details of that (being convinced that the AI already "sees the world" from the start).

Although I'm a latecomer to this game, I understand the entire objective of the game was AC.

On that basis alone, we should rushbuild Apollo. I don't think it really matters where - 11 Freights to CAPITOL, or 12 somewhere else.

If we don't have enough Freights for rushbuilding SS parts, then we'll need to change production in a few cities. Again, the whole point of the game is AC. If we're going to go ASAP, there's not much point in adding more improvements to cities that will only be needed for a dozen turns or so.

One additional benefit of using freight to build Apollo sooner rather than later, is that using one of CAPITOL's food freights for a wonder will unblock CAPITOL's Wine and Gold supply

            One other suggestion...

We can plow the freights into individual spaceship parts, allowing us to rushbuild the entire spaceship in one turn following the discovery of Fusion Power.

We're not likely to get Fusion Power in 10 turns, so I say keep our capital building Apollo.

To do the above we will need approximately 10k cash depending on the number of freights available and the size of the spaceship we intend to build.

This will not be hard, since we have passed our expensive phase of defense and infrastructure upgrades.

Build it in CAPITOL and use at least some freights to hurry it along.

Good discussion. It is better than I expected. If, where and how is a more complex question the more you think of it.

Guaranteed, when we get to see the whole world, one Minister will post everything new. I'm not sure who would be responsible for that though.

                    Suggestions?

How about the Vice President? after all, the current one did such a nice job a while back (even if the pictures are no longer hosted). He did demonstrate how to do it using this site
