We're almost to space flight, and I've been thinking. The spaceship is going to need some planning to get off the ground, but who's going to be doing that planning? The city planner because of the construction of the ship? The science minister due to the scientific nature of the project? A new governmental position? A joint venture? We might as well figure this out before we get there so we know what we'll be doing.

The city planner is the one who needs to plan the various construction projects, but if the science advisor delays key techs too long, we could wind up with cities building unnecessary extra structurals, slowing down construction as well as the ship itself.Insert witty phrase here

I think the Minister of Science is responsible for getting to the needed techs and the Minister of City-planning is responsible for choosing the appropriate cities to build the parts and keeping track of how many of each are needed.

So that's why you want to be cityplanner next month, Cavebear
I vote military advisor. He gets to determine how large a space ship we need, and which parts we start on first.
Citybuilds can stay with the cityplanner.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

New position, or both of the city planner and science minister working together. Ideally, with the right timing, the spaceship can be finished just as we acquire Fusion"I'm a guy - I take everything seriously except other people's emotions"

just out of curiousity - since we have had vacant offices each of the last 3 terms, and as yet haven't nominated someone for each of the 8 current positions, how practical is it to add a 9th (that just happens to overlap the jobs of 2 of the ministers we do currently have nominations for)?
Granted, we do have a couple new citizens this turn, and its possible some of the offices are viewed as not that necessary (do we really need an imperial expansion minister if we have already discovered the whole map? have we?) But we might want to fill all our positions before creating an additional one? Or maybe having an extra office is an incentive to get people to start more actively participating again?
thoughts?

And before anyone suggests that I should run for President for that reason, let me say that I fully support Ixnay for the job this time around. I think he is the perfect person for the job at this point in the game.

Another suggestion would be to allow a minister of imperial expansion to work out the spaceship requirements. This is only if we get enough people to fill this ministry.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

I think the Minister of Imperial Expansion position is obsolete at this point (but could have a use again after the SS is launched). Given the difficulty in getting people to run for meaningful offices, I'd rather see additional duties assigned to the existing ones.

once we get a bit closer to the mark, we can poll on the modalities of the SShip. Ie: small population but a large number of engines.......
From there it should be a combined effort to get the thing built."the bigger the smile, the sharper the knife"

Both, successively.
First, Science adviser has to conduct the research for appropriate techs.
Second, the building pregress depends on city planner alocating shields in cities.
But who asks the question of the kind of SS ? A minimal ship (15-4-4-1-1-1) ? a full station (39-8-8-4-4-4) ?CityPlanner will poll ?
