  • City-Planner Discussion 1889

Too hard to set up a poll yet, and a lot depends on what the Minister of War wants. Right now, my initial recommendations are:

Consul Ben Kenobi has decided to use the 1889 save I posted, so make sure you download the correct 1889 to look at.

    It's this one:

Let's open some discussion on what to do in the cities. We are still a Republic and that is making things difficult on us, but we will be able to revolt to Communism in 1891 and the military can roll. So we need to hold our cities together through the end of the next turn and anticipate the changes a Communist government will bring.

The floor is open to suggestions, changes, discussion...

Do we have tactics? If so, we might want to up the defense in Apolytonia, so that we have something to stop roving cruisers from taking potshots, by building the Alpines.

I agree with the switch to Communism, which should really be put in another poll.

Also, if we get Amphib warfare, I would suggest starting to build the coastal fortress before we build another tank. Marines will be cheaper and just as good on defense as the tanks.

We don't have Tactics, and no way of knowing who does (well, not directly, anyway). I mean we have no embassies, so no way of "checking intelligence" about any other civ. There are probably ways of deducing who has it by what weapons they show, but I don't feel up to that. A Science Minister would help in that regard.

I think that a primary goal would be to take more Sioux cities and get Coastal Fortress. My recollection is that Coastal Fortress was a Sioux tech from Ben's version of the advance. Right now, our cities are avoiding ship attack because they have no defenders to kill and the AI's have delivered no transports with ground units. We would be foolish to assume that situation will last for long, yet building less than Armor in a city without a Coastal Fortress is nearly futile. A Musketeer would certainly be killed at once by any passing ship. We are playing a very dangerous game having no defenders in our coastal cities!

I can't imagine any reason we would not change from Republic to Communism, but we could certainly poll to formalize that (or find reasons not to change if there are any).

I've always been a stickler for procedure.

Call it a quirk, but I'd rather do it right through a poll, as that is how all the others in this game have been done.

I'm sure it will pass, but we have to ask the people first.

And I agree. I have sometimes posted polls for things where the outcomes seemed perfectly obvious for the sake of "asking". It is a mark of a good leader that even unlikely things "sometimes" get polled just to be sure of agreement.

I'm glad you posted that poll; surprise opinions *could* arise. We need to check ourselves on those things from time to time!
