  • Consul's Observations on 1865 Situation

I thought I would point out some matters of information or concern about our current situation...

    1. We are now allied with the Celts, and they have gifted us Mobile Warfare and their maps.

    2. We have a Bead Caravan that can enter a size 20 Celt city next turn.

    3. Apolytonia has an idle Caravel in port.

    4. We have an Explorer available to explore SE of Panama. It might want to be rehomed on the way.

    5. We are building a Bank in Apolytonia. Perhaps that should change to Barracks or switch production to Caravan or Settler.

    6. The only ships (except 1) we can see are Celtic; they appear to rule the waves.

    7. We should complete Warrior Code when the Bead Caravan is delivered and need to decide "what next". [edit: Should have been "We should complete Warrior Code 1-2 turns and need to decide "what next"."]

    8. We have no Wonders.

    9. We aren't permitted to build Diplomats and Spies are far away.

    10. We are 1st in Productivity and last in GNP and Manufactured Goods.

    11. Our tax rate is 20-60-20 and we are netting 7G per turn.

    12. We are technically at war with the Zulu, but have not commenced any action.

    13. We have 1 Settler, building Road.

    As Tolkien said "Lucky 13".

    Ministers, post your polls.

I am amazed at some of these points!! I really wonder if anything I have posted has penetrated at all. Delivering the Beads before we finish War Code will be a monsterous waste of beaker bonus. This was posted previously in the 63-65 thread...

    A) Discover War Code overnight. We need to get WC before delivering the camel so that most of it's beakers are not wasted. And we don't want the camel hanging around too long. You can do this by bumping the Science slider to 70% for one turn.

B)The Explorer. It is very risky to send that dude East. You are begging for a war declaration before we are ready to fight. Would not it make sense to send him down to the bottom of the peninsula as an early warning in case the Persians send an army thru our back door?? If you don't want to divert him from exploring to the East, at least send the non Fanatic down there to keep an eye on things. Or send them both and set the Explorer hut hunting along the pole to the East.

    C) The Settler. Rehome the settler to Malaca as it has more food than Utica. Utica will then be able to grow, too.

D)Changes in City Build Orders. I've raised Cain about all the white goods on order, so this is an attempt to make lemonade. Getting Mob War is a blessing that changes all bets. It even gets past the obsolescence of Barracks problem. Change orders to Barracks in four cities, 2 Whales, Cartenna, Panama, and Utica. Keep Malica building it's Colosseum as it's food surplus will grow it faster, or build another Barrack there as well. Gades will get it's Temple rushed with the Beads delivery. It can then be set, along with the other three cities, to build either Settler or Horse. Why Horse?? To be the cheapest future martial law garrisons when we switch to Monarchy. If you move the slider to 70% Science then Apoly'a can wait one more turn as Bank. But I suggest moving the mine to sea for one turn and switching to camel if a slot opens up with the Beads delivery. It should then be rushed.

This will give 4 or 5 cities with Barracks making Vet Tanks. With this we can go hunting, I think.
At 80 shields, the smaller cities will not finish a Barrack, much less a Tank, so setting them building garrison units seems a good compromise. We are two turnsets away from any Army, so let's hope we can stay out of trouble just a little bit longer. Good luck, guys!!

As always, BM has a very good point. WC can only be another 1-2 turns away, so around 70 beakers. If we Xinning is not really an option, as for each guy we take away from the sea we recover only as many beakers as we do by leaving him there anyway, and for each guy we remove from the land we lose shields.

I say we skip the turn of the Caravan for the 1-2 turns until we get WC, then use it as we start the new tech.

With the Caravel, couldn't we change one or two of the New World cities to Caravans? Rusicade and Two Whales supply Coal, heavily in demand everywhere else in the world. Even with the ability to build Tanks already, it takes 80 shields to do so, which would take us forever in most cities, so extra gold from Caravans would help a lot towards rushing these somewhat.

as suggested above, we should leave it for 1 or 2 turn so W-C is finished without los of beakers(we need some 500 beakers/tech and a size 20 city should give as a large portion of that (I think).

        3. Apolytonia has an idle Caravel in port.

        4. We have an Explorer available to explore SE of Panama. It might want to be rehomed on the way.
I think I could find a use for these 2

        9. We aren't permitted to build Diplomats and Spies are far away.
just a dumb little question, is there a possibility to build embassies without the use of diplo's(through negotiations) ?

        12. We are technically at war with the Zulu, but have not commenced any action.
Maybe it isbeter to keep it that way for the time beeing(since we have nothing that could even remotely be considered an army)

None of the points were recommendations, though I see I phrased #7 poorly. And I have added an edit to clarify (as it was before sendin. But I went through and tried to "improve" some of the observations and that was a bad "improvement")

Nope, not possible so with our game restrictions, embassies are not available until we can "acquire " espionage and spies.

Why not try piling up some shields?

80 shields may seem difficult, but with a little collaboration, you can go a long way.

We can use the caravans such that they can pile up in the cities where we want some tanks.

It does us no good to worry about the beaker bonus, when we have no defense!

Ah, but you're forgetting the cash bonus, which is the real payoff now, as that helps us rush the Tanks.
