    I suggest War Code as the most versatile choice.

    First WC gives another "defense = 2" defender. But, the possibilities for future research are interesting.
    1) WC -> Iron W -> Physics -> Magnetism = Galleons, or
    2) WC -> Iron W -> Bridge = Roads in Riverville
    3) WC -> Fuedalism -> Chivalry = Knights, or
    4) WC -> Fuedalism -> Theology = JS Bach

      I follow the advice of the Minister of Science in this matter. "Warrior Code". We have to do it eventually, after all.

        Yeah, Warrior Code would be a good tech to get someday.

        Every path we have goes through there at some point.

          I have voted Physics in the naive hope that some of the AI do not yet have it and that someone will agree that we should contact them and attempt trading techs (and perhaps if Warrior Code is what we desire of their choices that is what we will acquire)

            I agree with this approach. I'd also like to see us working towards sanitation (see the size of Apolyton thread).

            Where do crusaders fit in? Do we need chivalry for them?

              This part in unclear. Perhaps you are unable to see the game, civ'pedia.

              Monotheism is needed for Crooks; Chivalry is not. Crusaders fit in as the soonest available attack unit.

              Is there some other point you were asking about??

                One of the paths you quoted earlier was:

                WC -> Feudalism -> Chivalry = knights

                Once we have crusaders I couldn't understand why we would want knights - IMO the extra defence doesn't compensate for the reduced attack. Anyway, I was mainly supporting Sparrowhawke's suggestion that we try to trade some techs.

                  Yep. I agree about the Knights. My job as Science Minister included some pointers to describe the choices a bit. It was a descriptive rather than a recommendation.

                  In the hundreds of games I have played, I can't remember being able to trade techs this late with hostile or icy AI. If we can manage an alliance with either the receptive or neutral civ, trading (or begging) may be possible. We can hope for the best.
