(I can't believe I'm suggesting this but hell why not)
950 BC – Japanese Settler appears next to Enron! Popped hut, REPUBLIC!
maybe we should skip monarchy and go for Republic at once...I know this will be a disaster shieldwise...

otherwise...no monarchy and already 2 races who want to kill us...joy
I really start to mistrust this game...what the hell is wrong?

Forget republic and go to WAR

Shade - I'm pretty sure that if we went Republic, we would fall into immediate and continued anarachy. We have too many total military units, too many out of the cities, and too many units would be disbanded for lack of shield support.

          ...you're right.... (--> me)
why couldn't the hut give us any other government?...all except republic and democracy would be a great improvement...actually even demo would have a plus --> SoL --> pick best choice

I'm just getting kinda desperate because we just don't seem to be capable to get to Monarchy

Well let us for the God's of Civ and hope they grant us monarchy so we can and the heads of our enemies.

We have 3 Settlers, do we not?

Add two to our size 3 city and Xin it. Build a library there, too. That should help our science rate... and we might not want to open any more huts for a little while

I understand how you feel. It is very frustrating. But you should imagine how it was to actually *play* the last session. Every time I moved a unit to pop a hut, there was the moment of hope, dashed by the failure to get Monarchy. It became so bad that I was closing my eyes for a moment to delay seeing the "25 gold" message. Not that money is bad, but it wasn't what I wanted to see.

I've never seen a game where Monarchy was so hard to get!

This is a worthwhile idea to seriously consider, though I will point out that one Settler is a nomad group far away from any city, and that the others are building roads in gold-grass squares we are already working and those add to our trade.

A specific science/trade city might not be a bad idea, though, even if we can't use it for caravans.

While a size 5 city for science sounds good, I think the cost of 2 settlers is too high a price to pay. If we can grow a city with normal growth (filling the food box) to size 5, then I say go for it, but I don't think this is a good use of settlers. Perhaps they could irrigate if this would help the city to grow faster (depending on the city that is, water seems to be a premium on this map!) As I stated on another thread, I am confident that we will very soon have monarchy, and at that point, we will be much better off. Much of the strategy posted is with the attempt to get to Monarchy, I prefer to think of strategy of once we get there (very soon I think) and once we get to Monarchy, we are going to want to use those settlers to found new cities.

Sparrowhawk once again offers his opinion, feel free to take it for what it's worth (less then a warrior, more then a caravan in this game)

The Foriegn Ministry requests that a diplomat be constructed soon for deployment in Greece where he can start an embassy. Of course, we need to find a Greek city first, but it will take some time for the dip to get there first, so I reccomend begining now

It would certainly make things easier, but we are playing a "No Wonder" game.
