  • Exploration, discovery, the hiring of mercenaries.... 2500BC

3150 BC ended after I changed all the cities to building Horsemen and adujsted labourers for maximum shields. The Barb Horse brained himself on our Mountain-climbing Archer.

I tiebreak the move orders for Archer #1 by moving him to the West instead of home to Majestica.

In 2950BC a hut is spotted at (123, 39) - it is 25 gold. Nice for if we DO need to rush a unit in Majestica.

In 2900BC we discover Alphabet - oh look! No advances leading to Monarchy can be researched at this time. It's almost as if it knows I choose Bronze Working instead.

Also this turn, the Imperialis Horse is built. I have no orders for him apart from "Explore!", so I head East into the tundra hoping for huts.

Horses from Majestica and Dominion do likewise in a North and West direction respectively. The circling Archer near Dominion finds a hut with Pottery in it in 2700BC.

A mercenary Archer homed to Imperialis is found next turn (2650BC), and a Horse for Majestica at another hut the same year. I decide to stop at 2500BC.

In 2600BC Bede proclaims us the most powerful Civ on the planet (really? With all those mercenaries? )

Code of Laws is found in a hut in 2550BC, so we're not COMPLETELY off track for Monarchy. An advanced tribe is found on a river quite far from home, becoming the city of Glorificus - flanked by forest on one side and tundra on the other - a bizarre, bizarre map.

At the start of 2500BC I save the game.

This map is damn weird. o.0

    Screenshots to follow.

ARGH - I hate it when that happens. Oh well...at least we'll have a good defender (like we really need it)

good choices ...we have quite some exploring units...I like it...and those archers .

I have the impression we might be put in some sort of corridor =>small strip of grass between 2 groups of hostile territory...as you say, very strange...I just Love it

Wow, we're pretty spread out -- going to need to backfill some nearby city spots...

                    strange terrain, enough specials though.

                    The river looks promising

The river is GREAT!! The only civ-river I can recall where you can actually travel in a straight line!

Definitely calls for a river-based approach to early cities, imho.

                        *constructive criticism*

This is why I wanted to save Horseback riding for our tech off of the path to Monarchy. The game always cuts us off at some point.

Now we will wait a few more turns to get into Monarchy.

you pop enough huts you get unwanted techs etc.....so don't sweat it..its a rare game to get monarchy without a hiccup

I sent it already... Haven't you got it yet? I have had no non-delivery messages.

obiwan - point taken, but if we had done that then we wouldn't have Horseback Riding yet and all those huts would still be begging.. And hey! At least we got CoL from a hut - that's just as good as if we had started Alphabet and didn't get it from there...

I thought if anyone was happy it would be you, shade. So many mercenaries.. And the specials are appearing, just in Mountains and tundra where we can't change them for a few millennia.
