  • Importance of ranking

I was wondering how much the "ranking" of posters matters to you guys.

I mean whether you have a label of emperor or chieftain is dependant on how many posts you have.

But who knows how many posts can be credited to something like a smiley and a statement of "right on"

I mean, if someone has a ranking of king, who knows how many posts were just jokes or irrelevant comments.

Just wondering how seriously you guys take the ranking system.

I keep track of where I am in post count rankings (140th now), but other than that I don't really care who has more or less posts than I do.

I only really carred about posts up to 500, when you get the custom avatar, everything else is pointless.

      ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

The ranking matters to me when I look at other people's posts. If I see a person with the rank of Emperor or above, who is not a mod, my spam alert goes off instanteneously.

well, i think someone can be an intelligent poster without being a mod..

after all, how do you become a mod?

If i see someone who is an emperor, it would be nice to read all their post to see how much is actually informative, but at that lwevel, it's just not realistic.

You give Markos a... erm, you'll find out for yourself.

The only reason I have so many posts (4000) is because I ran and helped set up 2 demo games, which are known for... err... high post count folks.

But the titles really aren't important that much. Once you get to know the community, you don't worry about them at all.

Yes, but I expect a mod to have thousands of posts due to the nature of the "title", but if I see a regular poster with such post counts, I just kind of (subconsciously?) assume that he is a spammer.

And if I see a settler in the OT, I assume that it is a DL.

If it's an old sttler in the OT, it's less likely.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Honestly? I'm embarrassed by my post count. I never cared about them, and then I checked... No one registered after me has more... but then that is not counting OT posters...

Most of mine were not in the demo games (I hope). Actually, they came from Civ 3 flames and discussions. More discussions than flames (I hope) but more than a few flames...

Rank has its privlages. Of course you get the last privlage at 500 posts and everything else is just a pissing contest.

Of course you don't want to spam and get a -10% post count
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Spammers get PCRs, not high post counts (usually). Some guys with ~6k posts are of much value actually.
