Huey, thanks, I just installed the program, works like a charm

The popup doesn't show up anymore. But the normal ads aren't showing up either, so I hope that no income is lost because of that.

As soon as I hear that that annoying crappy popup is gone, I will stop using this program, if that is the case.

Narck, I missed your earlier post, sorry. Here it is: www.webwasher.de Don't use it on Apolyton

Hey Huey, thanks for that link. I've just installed it, no banners and NO MORE POPUPS! I only get a script error (should I select some extra settings?) when I access the site but the rest seems to work fine.

However,I will keep webwasher set to also ignore the banner ads on Apolyton as a form of protest.

That is until MarkG and Dan officially announce that those popup banners are gone and will stay gone for good. I don't know if they have any say on this matter. But if they can't do a thing about it I want to hear some good reasons why not.

I think it's time to act like a critical consumer. Sorry, but that's the way it is

Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Like I said, disable it when you are here Anyway, you will be surprised about how much white space most webpages contain

Perhaps Gamestat or whoever would like to know that javascript can be turned off making that ad a complete waste of time, money and space.

Is there a way to disable the bloody popup but not the banners? I don't mind the banners at all, but the popup really pisses me off...

Yes, these popups are damn annoying. Is this because a bandwidth limit has been reached? Is it time for a different provider?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Iain: perhaps we should wait until the full story has been told: bandwidth, disk space, script change, etc. Maybe it's outside of Mark and Dan's control for now, but a longer-term arrangement might be possible. Who knows...

Narck, in Webwasher -> standard filter make sure you have only popup windows checked.

By the way, when I use Webwasher I no longer get the newsbox on the forum topics listing. Is there anything I can do to get it back?

edit: was happy too fast... by only clicking the popup thing in webwasher, the popups will still come up.

Heck, when one pops up, just minimize it and you won't see anymore of them

Mings ideas work, but I hate having too many open windows; it gets too confusing. And it would be a great error if this was to continue and get worse. Besides, it causes more irritation at the advertiser than anything else. Personally I don't give a flying f**k about what is being advertised. Whirlgirl schmirlgirl.
