They lost about 10% of that revenue when they chose Vendetta

We can let that tech go anyway, as almost everyone else has it - so let's get something for it. I guess acting weak at the same time will be a good move as well. I think we can combine both goals, no?

        Kassi:

Any movement in discussions in trying to get something for Ecological Engineering before Morgan meets the Gaians and trades/sells it to them?

Should the Gaians be researching EcoEng at the moment, how about a deal like this:

          We give Gaians EcoEng.
Gaia switches research to IntInt, provided they could get IntInt several years earlier than the Angels.
Gaia gives us - and the Angels - IntInt when it's researched. What Gaia gets in return from the Angels they should decide.
The Angels switch research to Cyberethics (should that be possible), and give it to us when researched.

Don't know what we could ask the Angels for EcoEng though.

Uh, so am I going to propose to Chaos and the Angels what Maniac's put forward? I haven't communicated to anyone anything yet because I was busy yesterday and currently I have little idea of what to say, since I'm not clear on what we want to propose vis-a-vis tech trade.

I don't think they'd go for such a trade. It might be too complicated as it already is, so getting ahead with other techs doesn't seem good to me. Long-term deals are risky now, because we don't know how exactly everyone will react, once we start tearing Morgan apart.

Perhaps, for a change, just plain ask both factions, if they would want to buy Ecol Eng, and what they would be willing to pay.

I think it's most important to secure their neutrality in this conflict. Try to convince them that the Morgans are strong enough to challenge us like this, and that we are trying to negotiate a peace treaty due to our over-extended military. They will want us to stay at war with Morgan I presume, so we can only hope that they can convince us of their neutrality.

Eventually, it might be possible to bribe them later on with EcoEng to get them to stay on our side, or at least be neutral.

But of course, asking them what they would pay for EcoEng is also a good idea.

Maybe suggest that if they stay neutral the price for EcolEng will be "acceptable"? In other words, make it clear that negotiating with us will be way easier if there's no past aggression between us. I think crafting the tone will be essential.

Yes that sounds like a good approach Kass
Just make sure that they don't misinterpret it as some sort of blackmail.

Do they know that everyone else has this tech already? If not, we just might sell it for what we want, and get their neutrality for it.

It's going to be a Phoney war for four years still, so what we want to do is to get something - anything - for ecol Eng before Morgan meets the Angels/Gaians withh that south-exploring 'Gator and makes contact.

I like Maniac's idea - which we could reinforce with our "paranoia" about pending sunspot activity (which would hinder Angel-Gaian tech trades as well)

We could tell them that we had a vessel mind-controlled away from us by Morgan - hence the state of Vendetta - and that we are currently planning an appropriate response or recompense. We needn't say we are planning an attack on a base, or a full-scale invasion, so I don't think we should even ask for/offer anything for their neutrality.

Just treat the Vendetta as "no biggie" as far as the A's and G's are concerned

Maybe say, "don't interfere, because that might escalate this to a fullblown war, and I doubt you want that either?" But what do we say when it does escalate into a fullblown war? "It's their fault, they escalated it first"? "Our offers of peace were rejected"?

They took our laser foil - we took their Headquarters & the PTS ............ and now they're mad at us?"

I'll start drafting up some messages, then.
