    Two guesses.

Either they are still deciding whether to join Sparta, or Morgan, and this prepares the groung for a declaration of war.

Or, they decided to really attack Yang, not just defend. They'd "find out", that it was a Hive infiltration, and they could turn fundy "in rage" after the assassination.

Whatever the plan, their roleplaying is sweet.
    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

Hmm, interesting. They haven't explicitly stated which faction the "assassin" was from, was it? So I do agree with Modo: they're up in the air about what's going to fall down.

I think I'm going to PM Illuminatus. "My condolences for Lady Skye's death. Oh, and you'll be better off with a weakened and victorious Sparta rather than a strong and victorious Morgan."
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

I'd rather not react in private - post in that thread Illuminatus made. And keep them hanging in the air - stick to the condolences. If they want something from us, I say let them come and ask directly.
        Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

          Hmmm, why is that?

I like the idea of sending a quick private PM, and then waiting a while to give a more elaborate official statement of condolence.

I'm still not convinced that they are as yet undecided. I think they're setting up to give us hell, but remember I'm paranoid I agree with you Modo, either way, their roleplaying is sweet

Basically, talking about the Morgan-Sparta situation would sound like we are intimidated. Especially if our reaction comes so quickly. I prefer to never sound intimidated, and I don't think they have decided anything. Some people are paranoid, some people are overly confident.

Hmm, I must have made myself a bit unclear. I am thinking of a more devious response (duh!), to the effect of:

"We express our condolences blab blab. Obviously the assailant was of Morganite origin, as we all know the apparent prowess of their intelligence division, that the Angels couldn't have done since they are your good friends, and most assuredly it wasn't us - we'd know about it!

So, since you are apparently contemplating war with Morgan, I assure you, we will be able to provide you with valuable infiltration data on them - and we must express our surprise over their timing of yet another act of aggression, as they are rapidly closing in on a point where they can bundle up on their island and build themselves to victory by shrugging off any attack that can be staged with our limited resources.

In this light, their decision to aggravate your wrath already now with such a heinous deed is strange, but I won't delve into that any further. Just give us the word, and we'll help you in any way we can."

I think this makes it look like they've already decided how it's going to be, and we're trumpeting what a good decision it was at the same time.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

This makes sense, I agree. And it's obviously not for the public.

The Gaians have their hands full with Yang. Remember, they popped a Unity Foil some time back and that was used to send their probe and mindworm north to Yang. They only got flex a few turns ago, so can't have an IOD (or if so, then it's still in their own coastal waters) as they can't capture IoD's with transports and would need to build a foil first, then go hunting.

So I'd say, "Yes, you're being paranoid"

What if the "big thing" was the Morganites making a probe action against the Gaians? Although the whole point in such a maneuvre seems suicidal and irrational. OTOH, the hints at professional probe teams may suggest an Angel involvement, but I find it unlikely the Gaian's DOW them.

Well, if the Morganites had probed the Gaians they would have their commlink right? Which they didn't, so I think we can rule that out.

Very nice PM Kass, go for it

And I will accept the judgement of the Junta that I am paranoid, though it won't make me any less paranoid

                        Great message Kassiopeia!

While we’re performing a diplomatic offensive towards the Gaian Union, may I suggest a follow-up message something like this? If the theory is correct that they’re setting up a precedent to declare war on either us or Morgan, perhaps offering them cooperation will help to make them choose our side.

Greetings most honoured members of the High Council,

Last year, Mission Year 2155, a terrible event struck upon the Spartan Federation. While we have always maintained friendly relations with our large neighbour the Human Hive – as much as it is possible to have good relations with such a dictator as Yang – this year he suddenly declared a Vendetta on us. So sudden is Yang’s change in stance towards us, that we suspect Morgan Corporation has bribed the Hive into doing so.

The reason seems obvious. Last year he began the conflict by seizing control of our former capital ship the SCC Hunter, and this year he continues by setting up the Hive against us. We are now very vulnerable as we share an extensive border with Yang, and our main combat forces are located in Arcadia.

And just recently we regret to read that your faction leader Lady Skye has been assassinated. As we have mentioned before, according to our information this seriously smells towards a Morganite action. Only they could be so cowardly. It is no doubt an attempt to destabilize your faction. Together with tying us up in a long war with the Hive, they have strongly weakened the forces that could yet have resisted their domination of Chiron under a brutal form of free market.

However it is not yet too late! By cooperation we can push back the Hivean hordes, and, by the grace of Planet, ultimately bring the battle back to the homes of Morgan Industries. Therefore the Junta would like to suggest an exchange of information and tactical battle plans regarding the Human Hive, to combine our efforts to repulse our common enemies. Together we can prevail!

                        Hoping for a positive answer,

                        The Spartan Junta

Yes. They demanded something, and we told them to beat it. They decided they want to play. Will provide combat training for Spartan troops, I guess.

Received a PM from Illuminatus. Good news, bad news.

Bad news: The Gaian team is currently missing a turnplayer. They run the risk of having to default to an AI. The good news: They seem to be strictly yaligned against Morgan. I'll just paste what I received here:

I am not a lord for some time (I retired from almost all positions in faction). Please try contacting CT or BT in future, as I am trying to get myself out of copypasting messages from threads to PMs and from PMs to threads. Gaian replies will come in several days I believe, currently they are trying to find a turnplayer.
                              [off-Gaian related]
I noticed in October that one day this will happen but I kept silent. Drogue was foolish to quell Tassadar - spamming was what saved Hive team in last ACDG. It would at least maintain a constant level of activity and interest. Both Gaians, you and Angels are having identical activity problems, which slows game seriously. It would be a shame if Morgan wins not because of their skill but because other factions were Codiciled to AIs.

I kinda feel bad faking inactivity problems to them. It looks like we and the Morgans are top contenders since we can maintain a decent level of activity.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Well I agree, I don't feel too good about faking inactivity either

Like I've come to realize, we still have a good sized core of members who are active. And I for one intend to stay active, since I'm having a lot of fun and I usually have the spare time for it, beats watching TV any time
