Well there's always the soon-to-be-commissioned SCC Redoubtable

See Sparta updated in the recruitment thread

(I thought I'd have a little fun - I don't know if anyone reads it though)

You know, I was wrestling with what our second one would be called (so I thesaurused Invincible and got Redoubtable)

I agree. SCC Enterprise is so much better.

But won't it be Primus Pilus' call?

I'll go back and edit it to be nameless until its christening

Good point, it'll be his boat. I forgot that Dissident sort of named his own in that hazing article.

              Here's the 2nd Division (300 officers and 1800 enlisted):

The 2nd Division has responsibility for the whole of England north of the Humber and Scotland. The division was first formed in 1809 to fight in the Peninsular War and one of its most famous engagements was during the Burma Campaign in 1944 when, at the battle for Kohima, the tide against the Japanese Army finally turned. The Divisional Headquarters is in Edinburgh.
              • The Divisional Headquarters is in Edinburgh. The 2nd Division comprises four Brigades and a Garrison:
              • 15 (North East) Brigade, with its Headquarters in York, is responsible for units in the North East of England.
              • 42 (North West) Brigade, with its Headquarters in Preston, is responsible for the home defence of the North West of England and the Isle of Man.
              • 51 (Scottish) Brigade, has its Headquarters in Stirling. The Brigade’s area of responsibility encompasses almost two thirds of Scotland from the Forth and Clyde rivers in the south to the Shetland Islands in the north.
              • 52 (Infantry) Brigade, is a Light Infantry Brigade with Light Role Battalions at Edinburgh, Chester and Preston under its command.
              • Catterick Garrison, including units in Ripon, Topcliffe and Dishforth. Catterick Garrison also hosts 19 (Mechanised) Brigade.

i will accept cmd of our next boat if deemed by the Junta. however, Enterprise is a Grand name reserved for a Capitol ship (sea/space). therefore, i propose Hunter. let's save the fancy names for our kick'as boats.

Well put, Lieutenant, I do think we'll get to christen some cruisers later on to guard the beaches. SCC Hunter is an apropos name.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Interestingly, I ran a google search of the US registry and the UK registry, and there's no warship currently - or ever - called the Hunter

So once again, Sparta leads the way

We have now met the Gaians, as well as all 3 AI factions (Hive, Uni and PK's)

Ancient Sparta had two kings and managed fine - two heads of the diplomatic department ought to manage as well. In Foreign Affairs I'm more interested in the pensmanship and facets of propaganda involved, rather than studying the intricate webs of interfactional relationships as such (hence my interest in running the factional newsletter).

In that sense, I could stay as Minister of Information, and merely act as the "voice" of Sparta. You (GeneralTacticus) could be the "intent" of Sparta, the one who polls for opinions and ponders the general guidelines we go by, plans the strategy and so on. Naturally we could, in name of general flexibility, work in both roles, and act as an advisor for the other.
How active is GT nowadays? I haven't seen a post of his here for a while

To maintain the appearance of mild disinterest and isolationism, though, it'd be better to have only one clear figurehead for Sparta in the diplomatic circles (that would be me ). It's a clear message when a meeting is held with a legion of attaches and assistants sent by the other side, while the other party sends a single official. Quite a striking image, especially in negotiations for surrender, although I don't see the Spartans accepting anything else than unconditioned surrender unless we're doing really badly.
I'm delaying the 2140 turn until Kass et al recommend/decide what to do about the Gaians - note that they have asked what we want for Doc Mobility

We obviously want Ind Auto, but that may be somewhat of a one-sided swap that they'll balk at. They haven't (yet) expressed any interest in our intervening to call Chairman Yang off their backs, but that may come. They have offered a Treaty

(see Sparta-Gaian Private Forum (my bolding):

We are interested in research cooperation and establishing trade routes with you. We propose Treaty of Friendship in light of cooperation and peace with your faction. Other Lordships are also authorised to propose trade with you.

I'm new with ACDG diplomacy, so bear with me, but would it be too blunt to say something like,

"We very much appreciate your offer, but honestly were mainly interested in procuring Industrial Automation, and obviously only offering doc:mob would be a one-sided trade. Therefore, is there a combonation of techs/favors that you would be willing to trade for Industrial Automation?"

And also, the treaty is definitely a good idea, in my opinion. I don't have any overwhelming urge to invade the Gaians at the moment, does anyone else?

I PMed him last week and he told me he's lost interest in the ACDG for now.

Personally I'd say that's good. It could give a generous impression saying we want to give more to them than what they first suggested (only DocMob).

I feel a promotion coming on

I think Lt Colonel Googlie has a certain ring to it (and will give credence to there being 2 strong factions within the Junta - Googlie leading a pro-Morgan wing and maybe Maniac leading a pro-Gaian wing?)

Kass, of course, as the Diplomat has to stay rigidly neutral

(but we'd prolly need a new recording Officer to the Junta, as it'd be unconscionable to have a politicized Recording Officer)

Does anyone else think that Lt. Colonel Googlie has that je ne sais quois ring to it?

                              G.

Oh, certainly. I do like the idea. I wonder how having two Lt. Colonels would affect our decision-making. That is purely from an RP perspective, as far as I've observed the way the turns are played, you both having equal rank is perfect. Also with Maniac having to be absent for a bit more nowadays, it'd be spot on. We could have run-off sentences of "Lt Colonel Maniac being reserved" or "unavailable" or "busy" often, to allude as if something's happened to him.

I will certainly enjoy the role of the hapless diplomat, loyal to the Junta, having to balance between the two "factions".

I myself could, possibly, take up Recording Officer, as well as being Diplomatic Officer - but that is a task that would possibly also interest Krysia, so I will not call dibs on it just yet.
