I think Primus Pilus or Dissident would be perfect for captaining our first battleship.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Yeah I've appointed him as Lieutenant-Commander (IIRC ~ Major rank in the army) of the SCC Invincible. I'm not sure which rate he wants.

If no-one else wants to take responsibility for terraforming, I'll gladly pass over command of Rolling Thunder and take on the mantle of the Engineering Corps
Then we'd need a new captain for Rolling Thunder. But of course as the game progresses and I assume we all rise in rank, having command over multiple units, I assume we'll start using fictional commander names for roleplay purposes. So we could promote Rynn to Captain of Rolling Thunder if you want? Unless she stays with you as second-in-command of the Engineering Corps?

You're now the commander of our Ogre, the only unit for now in our Special Forces Corps.

I think it'd be nice to have Rynn command Rolling Thunder. I could assume command of our new rover unit, especially if I get to give it a cool name.

We could also, wrt. Major Googlie , have a little round of promotions to get some fodder for the Phalanx

There's currently a new rover troop available if you're interested.

Yay. I'll have to think over the name hard and well. It's not unlike naming your firstborn

              Googlie: proposal noted.

What will my unit be doing for the time being? I need to be able to do my desk job too, remember that. I'll have to appoint a good second-in-command.

A brigade? That reminds me, we need a reference source on the whole battalion/division/unit/regiment/brigade/corps stuff. What's worse, I think that's more country-specific than anything.

I've been using this as my reference. A while ago I presented an argumentation for a unit containing more or less 200 soldiers, so I've been calling our units companies (or for our rovers: troops) until now.

I posted this in the units section:

                        **************************************************

With 4 rovers, an Ogre, and a soon-to-be-built infantry scout, it's time to organize ourselves into Divisions and Theaters of Operation

                        I suggest:

As R-112 CRV and Chiron Knights were first out of the starting blocks (and as both are currently together to the south) that they become Brigades of the 1st Army Division, operating out of Sparta Command

Rolling Thunder is then a Brigade of the 2nd Army Division, as will be Kassi's rover unit when they get commissioned (operating out of Sector Craterwest)

Shrek, as a Special Forces Unit, attached to the 3rd Army Division (Base garrisons, civil defense and special ops), based in Santiago Citadel, will join with the Infantry scout(s) when produced to give the 3rd Army critical mass

(Not that it's relevant, butin the Spartan Chronicles we came to a concensus that a mobile ground unit represented about 120 - 200 real life units, a stationary one (eg a scout) about 700 - 1000, while an aircraft represented some 20 - 24 actual planes and a naval vessel was a flotilla of some 6 - 12 ships)

We're 40,000 population now, going on 50,000 and if 10% of our population is in the armed forces, that's a lot of men (and women)

But if you think about it, wouldn't it make sense that we would start out with a large portion of our population in the military? In order to explore and secure a foothold on Planet, we'd need a strong military early on, which is exactly what we have.
Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

I'll give up RT to anyone that wants to command a well-decorated brigade (read the Sparta Chronicles early chapters on the war with Yang)

I can leave Rynn with the RT group - it'll let me dabble in some fiction from that perspective

sorry i've been away. comcast internet got stupid (AGAIN ). been off line for 2-days and super-genius tech still didn't fix problem until we threatend home office on phone...anyway...too bad i missed-out on 1st Fleet Commander. i would like other naval units in the future. i am open for other jobs, but like Kassopeia said, a 2nd cmd would be a good back-up if i can't respond in time. re unit sizes and cmd structure, modern conventions are similar across nationalities and political doctrines, and understandably have their roots in the first truly organized militaries (Greeks, Romans, not sure about ancient China).
