  • Base/Unit/Landmark Naming Thread

I thought I'd start a thread to collect all possible suggestions for base, unit or landmark names in the game.

To begin with, base names! Fire away your suggestions!
(Reminder: base names can have 23 characters at max)
For the record, these are the standard base names that come with the game:

    #BASES
    Sparta Command
    Survival Base
    Commander's Keep
    War Outpost
    Militia Station
    Fort Legion
    Janissary Rock
    Blast Rifle Crag
    Hawk of Chiron
    Assassin's Redoubt
    Centurion Cave
    Bunker 118
    Hommel's Citadel
    Training Camp
    Defiance Freehold
    Hero's Waypoint
    Fort Liberty
    Ironholm
    Fort Survivalist
    Fort Superiority
    Halls of Discipline
    Parade Ground
    #END

    #WATERBASES
    Fleet Anchorage
    Admiralty Base
    Hydrodock
    Fleet Base
    Sea Outpost

Which should we use ourselves in this game? Several of them are great, but a few others (eg War Outpost, Training Camp, Fleet Base...) are rather dull and uninspired IMHO.

Then there are unit names. Personally I think it would be great to have a name for each ship. Something like the Pirates had in ACDG2. Have a look here. Also if we use the idea that each unit, also land and air units, is under command of a specific member, whether it is nominally or effectively, perhaps the commander could give its unit also a special name, eg Jamski's Jaguars, Googlie's Goliaths, Burns' Berzerkers... for a company of rovers or infantry.
What do you think about this?

In my SP (and PBEM) games I use B-etc and F-etc for my penetrators and interceptors

Thus a B-4 would be an impact bomber, while an F-6 would be a missile interceptor. A B-13e would be an empath shard penetrator while an XF-16e would be an empath nervegas quantum interceptor

I have more problems with my choppers, so I just interchange Falcon and Blackhawk for ones with SAM capability and Commanche and Huey for those without (one name will usually be obsolete until upgraded, then I can use the other )

My infantry probes re Boy Scouts while my peripatetic ones are CIA, with Navy Seals being the foil probes

Also, I've added the following seabase names to my sparta .txt:

    Scapa Flow
    Peenemunde
    Brest
    Norfolk
    Pearl Harbor
    Taranto
    Vilnius

(I just seem to build more than 5 or 6 in a game)

(and if we do have units named after us, I'd like Googlie's Gnats for our first commissioned interceptor squadron)

      Naming everything is good.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

We ought to name something after Santiago, now that she's in stasis indefinitely.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Maybe call our second base Santiago's Citadel or Fort Santiago, in her honour?

Or call the highest elevation tile at our start site (prolly the tile one north of the seed pod tile) Mount Corazon

Edit: On second thoughts, Morganites woiuld have a field day with that name. Maybe Corazon Peak or Corazon Summit

Maybe "Corazon Defense Facility"? (It might confuse our opposition "We need to capture the CDF!" - The Corazon Defense Facility?" - No, the base with the Citizens Defense Force in it!"

            Also:

Blackshirt Citadel - does a little pinch of Fascism go along with our militarism?

Elite Enclave - this can be a base with morale-enhancing facilities.

Grand Armoury - this can be one of our high-mineral, heavy military-producing bases.

We could also have Western Command Sector, Eastern Command Sector, etc.

Given that we're at least partially basing oruselves on Heinlein's Starship Troopers, I wouldn't say so. Anyway, Nazi-style mob organisations wouldn't do very well in Sparta; they're easy to get rid of if you have trained soldiers to suppress them.

                  Kody's Cave for a basename - or Kody's keep?

Kody's Bight for a bay on our coastline?

Nah a honorary job position. I'm collecting useless but impressive titles.

I've got SCUM of the Morgan, forgot what the abbreviation stands for. And I'm janitor of Honghu's washroom too. Need to collect more titles.

You can be the Minister in charge of making sure the pins stay in the right spots on the War Map. Hoorah!

Oh that's a really nice long name of a position. Can you insert that into your job list and make it official?

But Tass and I were honored last game by many factions, in having bases named after us, so i suggest we adopt:

                            Buster's Bastion
                            Kody's Keep
                            HongHu's Haven
                            Drogue's Depot
                            Method's Metropolis

somewhere in our list of bases (assuming that we do go ICS)

Or I could be a Lieutenant at Spambot Station One.
