    Wikipedia says:

Sparta was an ancient city in Greece, the capital of Laconia and the most powerful state of the Peloponnesus. The city lay at the northern end of the central Laconian plain, on the right bank of the river Eurotas. The site is strategically sited, guarded from three sides by mountains, and controls the routes by which an army can penetrate Laconia and the southern Peloponnessus and the Langhda Pass over Mt Taygetus connecting Laconia and Messenia. At the same time its distance from the sea—Sparta is 27 miles from its seaport, Gythium—made it difficult to blockade

LOL - I like it. Interject a dose of culture to these other barbaric factions (and Mark G would prolly like it too!!)

MarkG lives in the more northern Thessaloniki though. (So perhaps we could call a base after his home town? )

Are we going to stick with the SC scheme? While I admit it's a nice idea, I think we would be missing a world of cool basenames that way.

Yeah - the SC theme was cute, but that's all it was.

I like the idea of Sparta Command's seaport being Gythium Harbour, and NerveGas Factory or PlanetBuster Production Facility have a certain ring to them too (we can sprinkle referecnces to NGF and PPF in future editions of The Phalanx which will whet readers' appetites)

I just tried to PM Drogue (but got the message reject notice as he has a full inbox) so I've just e-mailed him

Cool pic Googlie! It's kinda cool that our rovers all have unique features. We could come up with some sort of story about how our engineers designed rolling thunder for more rolling and rocky terrain, and how R-112 CRV was designed for flat, tropical climates, etc.

It's armor actually kinda looks like silksteel armor. We could also use this pic to illustrate a 1-4-2 silksteel skirmisher, if we ever build any of those.

I just googled wwII armored cars, and got a slew of hits for almost every warring nation - tanks as well.

There was a cool 6-wheeled German vehicle but I liked this one's pic better
