Since we've started the trend with 2 Sxxxxx Cxxxxx bases, if we want to continue, we could perm any column 1 name with a column 2 name: (some would be landmark names and not base names - and some are seabase names - adjust the Col 1 adjective accordingly))
Column 1 ............. Column 2
Sparta ............... Command
Sabre .................. Cache
Saddle .................... Cairn
Safe ....................... Camp
Salvo ...................... Canal
Samurai ................... Canyon
Sanctuary ...................... Cape
Sanity ........................ Castle
Savage ...................... Catacombs
Scabbard .................... Cauldron
Scenic ........................ Causeway
Science ...................... Cave
Scientific ....................... Cell
Scimitar ..................... Center
Scorched ........................ Choice
Scourge ................... Citadel
Sea ............................. City
Seal .......................... Collective
Sector ......................... College
Secure ....................... Colony
Sentinel .......................... Commune
Serene ....................... Complex
Shaft ....................... Compound
Shallow ....................... Cordillera
Shard .......................... Cove
Shark ....................... Cradle
Sheathed ............................ Crag
Shield
Shuttle
Skirmish
Skull
Snipers’
Solar
Soldiers’

Stalwart
Submarine
Swordman’s
eg Shard Cache (landbase)
Scorched Cordillera (mountain range)
Submarine Cradle (seabase)

I like Buster's Crater
And would the colonists use river names to:
- remind them of earth
- honour their senior officers
- reflect the topography around them, or
- have some militaristic connotation
(Also, we need to name the second rover that's exploring south of Sparta Command)

I forget how many allowable landmark names there are (Kody - do you recall - 64 or 128 or something?)
Anyway, the mods should allocate 1/4 of the slots to each of the 4 factions so that 1 faction doesn't monopolize all like almost happened in the last game

Gunrunners' Creek sounds good. whats a Gunrunner? or is it just a combination of words?
Creek is a minor river, right? but that is quite big river.
should all the names be Santiago this, Corazon that? me thinks this is bad.
how about "Blood Of The Earth" for the river that flows thru Santiago's Citadel?
EDIT: I second that what Googlie said. (1/4 of names for every faction.)
EDIT2: and is that Mount Olympos that big/tall/high after all?My Words Are Backed With Bad Attitude And VETERAN KNIGHTS!

A gunrunner is a smuggler of guns
the "pus" of my Mount Olympus (ie that rocky tile) seems to be the highest point in our map (as revealed so far) at 2974 meters high. Sparta Command is founded on a peak that's 2846 meters high
And, yes, on second thoughts if Santiago were dead, then maybe we'd revere her with placenames and river names, etc, but as she's in cryosleep we prolly wouldn't
Gunrunners' River is OK too - I just thought that Creek fit better to the ear than river in that instance. Also, as it seemed to huddle beneath the crater rim it lent itself to smuggling connotations (Spartans clandestinely rowing downriver to deliver a cache of arms to discontented drones in the other factions, to foment revolt)
In terms of size, a Stream or Brook would be the smallest, then a Creek, then a River
If honoring the dead, wouldn't Sparta be more dramatic with a name - more like Blood of the Martyrs or Blood of the Fallen instead of "Blood of the Earth"? (especially as it's Chiron - "Blood of Chiron", maybe?)
Or as befits the faction's southern California/Mexican roots, maybe the Neuvo Colorado River
