Hmmm, if it is at all possible, I'd rather just use a unit for drone duty. Why not move the new SC2 rover to SC1, wait a turn for it to do its dron control duty, and then have it move to the NE, then E? Wouldn't that essentially accomplish the same thing? Then we could put the Ogre somewhere else for drone duty. The only setback to stapling SC1 is that then we forfeit the option for any future stapling. Then, what if we need to staple Sector Craterwest or Gythium Harbor? I'm okay with the stapling, but I just hope we make the most of the opportunity.

I'd hold nervestapling as a last resort, and still move the Ogre to SC1, and explore north with just the 1 new rover. The Ogre can be moved across to SC2 and down to Harbor after the Command's CP is rushed, and I'd support commissioning a Scout Patrol next at SC2.
We don't know how much of that unexplored land Northeast might have east-flowing rivers coursing down from Mount Taygetus and Olympus that would let the rover complete its assignment and return in the space of 6 turns (by 2125)
As I pointed out in the earlier post, the new SC2 rover could be at Olympus' summit in 1 turn (and maybe that's all that's needed by way of units to explore there given that Rolling Thunder needs 2 turns to get itself on the Rio Grande to head north, so perhaps it should hang around the crater to provide some general security and drone control there.
So a workable solution would be:
2120- Continue moving the Ogre to SC1 (2 river tiles, then see if it can use the remaining 1/3rd to get to the tile adjacent to SC1
- move Rolling Thunder 2 tiles west on to the arm of the Eurotas River
- Send the newly commissioned scout rover upriver (bypassing the monolith) to the tile(s) east of the Eurotas source
- start an infantry scout in SC2
2121
If the Ogre was unable to get to 1 tile NW of SC1, then use the nervestaple option on Sparta Command so that it can grow to size 2 and we can rush the colony pod next turn. Return the Ogre to Citadel
(As we grow, we do need to assign responsibilities for Exploration, Defence, etc etc)

If we want to be absolutely sure that we don't incur drone riots, then we should consider:
- leaving Shrek in Citadel (if we are going to use its CC to churn out troops, then the Ogre's extra drone-policing powers will be best used here)
- moving the about-to-be-commissioned Citadel rover to Sparta Command (after its CP gets built, it can then trundle over to Craterwest in time to do droneriot duty there)
- putting an infantry scout into production at Citadel (complete in 2124 - send to Gythium Harbour in time to quell incipient riots there) - by then we'll be 1 turn away from Applied Physics, and can start a new unit in Citadel that we can change to prototype a laser infantryman
- Moving Rolling Thunder east 2 tiles then barrel up the Eurotas to explore east of the SC1-Olympus-Langhda-Taygetus line and north of Taygetus
This way we'll be assured of no drone riots and just be 1 turn behind exploring the north by northeast territory (Rolling Thunder versus the new - as yet un-named - rover.

If I understand the discussions about unit orders correctly, these would be good orders, correct?
SCC Invincible: move to/explore around the nutrient on (47.29).
R-112 CRV: explore around the pod. To (56.32)? (To (57.35) would mean we couldn't attack a possible worm on (57.31).)
Chiron Knights: move towards the pod
Ogre: try to move to SC1. If the move fails and we can't get to (61.19), the Ogre has still time enough to return and garrison another base before it grows to size 2.
Rolling Thunder: move two east
That only leaves the new SC2 rover. I guess a lot depends on the success or failure of Shrek. Btw, if it is decided to move to the Eurotas river source, is it ok to try and pop the unity pod north? If so, what to change production to in case of a materials pod? Network node I assume? What base is closest to that pod btw? SC1 or SC2? SC2 which is four straigth tiles away, or SC1 which is only three but diagonal (thus *1.5?) tiles away??

I vote for just leaving Shrek in SC2 as its permanent garrison, and move the new rover to Sparta Command (we know it will get there in time for sure, whereas Shrek is still a ???)
(And I thought we were leaving that pod north of the Eurotas source to be inside the base radius of a base to be founded on 60:12. But if we use Rolling Thunder for that exploration it'll just be able to move 6 tiles upriver to the source of the Eurotas, so we have some time to discuss whether to pop that pod or not)
Agreed with SCC Invincible, R-112 and Chiron Knight's movesLast edited by Googlie; July 28, 2004, 11:01.

Okay done.
Battle Report MY 2120
- Rolling Thunder moves two tiles east.
- Shrek stays in SC2.
- New SC2 roves gets a morale boost to Commando (+) at SC1's monolith, and will move into SC1 next turn.
- R-112 CRV and Chiron Knights moved into position for some serious pod-popping next two turns. A bounce on fungus with the CRV revealed some more terrain.
- SCC Invincible moved to (47.29) and spotted forests!! Planted by the Hive, by a Unity pod or by buster, we don't know (yet).
- SC2 production set to a scout patrol.
Ready for posting in the general forum?
(And I thought we were leaving that pod north of the Eurotas source to be inside the base radius of a base to be founded on 60:12.
Edit: Btw, should I keep posting turn reports in the 2101-2120 report thread?Attached Files

Thanks for the renaming. However I have a problem with lots and lots of files starting to accumumate in my upload space. Therefore I got the idea of opening a new thread with the turn reports all in one post and all the presend files in one downloadable attachment. That way I could delete the ~20 save files in my upload space. Would that be all right?
In the future I'll remember to attach instead of upload presend files. Then I won't have the problem of overfull upload space anymore.Last edited by Maniac; July 28, 2004, 14:16.
