  • Got this from Sparta:
Greetings, Lords of the Gaian Union:

With Lt Colonel Kassiopeia embarking for a few Planet years on project RL, I have been designated by the Junta to handle all the Spartan Federation's external affairs.

The first order of business is agreeing to a truce.

Although our 2 factions have somewhat of a history of cool relations, our recent "spat" was intended to be short lived in any event, as we needed to clear a passage for our fleet (and also somewhat as retribution for your pacting with our enemies, the Corporation)

And in this context, rest assured that out units healing at the monolith at co-ordinates 61:57 have no ill designs against your base - they are indeed healing after being severly tested in our capture of the Hive's Huddling of the People base. They will board the transport waiting offshore after refreshing themselves and gaining their morale uplifts.

We have high hopes for this Planetary Peace Conference, as we believe that a prolongued period of peace and prosperity will better enable us to cope with the irascible Chairman and his Hive minions. We see that you - like us - have been prudent in signing a truce, but our agents report that he is again in vendetta with the Corporation. It seems our friend needs a target to direct those forces towards.

For our part - given that the Federation is geographically removed from the Gaian Union - we see little gain by our factions' continuing in a state of vendetta. Indeed, with the removeal of sanctions next year, it is in all our interests for harmonious relations to be restored, and the Junta is interested in the Gaian Union position on a possible Treaty of Friendship between our factions. Whether this could lead to a re-opening of our embassies, and eventual mutual technology trading, only time will tell.

    Regards,

    Colonel Googlie

    • Good cop/bad cop? Nevertheless, we cannot go on the offensive against the Spartans at this point.

        • I just received this email:

Based on the Peace Conference resolutions, we are offering a Truce this turn

And, also, sailors on the Disco Volante, rounding your south coast, waved to your children playing in the fungus southeast of Lily of the Valley.

We have no ill intent, and will vacate your coast immediately (however we are anchored for the night in the bay to the southeast, exchanging pleasantries with the crew of the Angels probe foil nearby)

          • I haven't heard anything about a Peace Conference but then I'm not paying close attention.

One thing to keep in mind....we now have an IoD in the vicinity!!!

EDIT: OK, I just read the Peace Conference thread...It seems we have a truce. This stinks. Sparta got off easy vs the rest of the factions!!!

              Dear Gaian Lords :

We at Sparta Command are getting concerned that the Gaian Union is falling behind in the technology race, and risks becoming irrelevant on Chiron.

We would like to remedy that, and offer you the opportunity to buy/trade from us the technology Planetary Economics, and with it the rights to build the Ascetic Virtues SP (This will increae your POLICE rating to a par with the other factions, and allow you substantial growth in the next few decades)

(If these terms are acceptable, then the federation undertakes not to build the Ascetic Virtues ourselves)

And our terms are reasonable for such a unique opportunity:

              Treaty

250 credits (half up front and the balance which can be paid in up to 5 annual instalments)

and the undertaking that you will not onward trade that technology to any 3rd party

the undertaking that you will not build the Cyborg Factory

As well, we would require formal acceptance of our right to broker any deals and monitor any contacts between our Protectorate, the University, and the gaian union
              Is the Gaian Union interested?

              • Yech! That sounds like an awful high price for ONE tech to me. Without the turn at my fingertips, what's the biggest industrial load at any one base? What do we have in means of crawlers and such if we did want to try and get Aesthetic?

                • we don't need AV

+1 police gives us nothing, only nerve staple ability

+2 poplim will not give us anything for years now.

                  So my vote is nay.

                  • I agree, AV is worth very little to us. OTOH, I guess we are already committed to a truce with Sparta. I'll play the turn, truce but no AV deal, agreed?

                      • Spartans offer Doc: Init for Neural Grafting. It's a bad deal as far as I'm concerned.

                            • That's a great post. It's a pity that our Gaian role playing never got off the ground. I wonder how the Angels got a couple of drop probe teams in range to make the drop. I wonder whether the Angels have infiltrated us yes or not. I think we need to continue to buld up our probe home guard. Regarding Sparta, I don't see any way we can get any advantage over them due to this incident. I don't see how we are going to be anything but an also ran faction for the short to mid term anyway. I guess we can hope that other factions will go to war with eachother while we paly catchup.

                              • I'm not sure if the Angels have anything in range of us, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did infiltrate us. In any case, they do have full information on us now, and we have nothing to fight over, so it doesn't concern me much.

The Angels dropped probe teams on ex-PK territory, which is much closer to them than the Spartan mainland.

As far as role playing, I'd be happy enough if I didn't hear crickets in the forum.

We might have more options once our pop boom goes off. With the Longevity Vaccine (which we'd better defend), we'll have extremely powerful drone control. We could make a run for it yet.
