The Spartans were, for the most part, a no-show today at 2100. Kassiopeia showed up for a few minutes around 2020, and pinged out. He showed up again around 0000, saying he had ISP problems. Hopefully this is nothing he would be deceitful about. He also said Googlie didn't want to deal with Illuminatus. In any case, I will be in the same place at 2100 today (Sunday) and I expect Spartans. If they don't show again, our diplomatic relations with them are pretty much finished.

I guess it is better that I don't show up then, for the sake of relations. :|Last edited by Illuminatus; November 21, 2004, 06:59.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

Well, what did happen with planned Non-Aggression Pact with Spartans?
It would be very helpful for our relations!-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Read the summit (IRC chat)!
Anyways - I suggest it now!-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

No one suggested it to Spartans I mean. And I believe that we should not directly do it. Perhaps in another summit or chat offer the possibility?SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

Spartans invented that thought - didn't you read?
They said they're disappointed with bad relations and feeling like we want war with them, or simply do not want to be friends and said they're ready for some kind of two-sided agreement to give both our factions feeling of security from each other's hostility - read the chat!-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

I just reread it. Do I have to post in each thread? There is no direct mention of nonagression pact, but there is their concern if we are going to attack them.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

Lord Chaos Theory,
I have something to discuss with you.
The passing turn has been stormy as far as our relationship with Morgan Industries is concerned. However, even though they did engage in an act of aggression against us, we are currently negotiating a peace treaty with them. This is taking place in the belief that the Morganite vendetta against us does not escalate any further; therefore the Federation wishes to assure you that it expects no military aid whatsoever from the Gaians.
In a similar vein, the Junta hopes that you will uphold our beneficial and lucrative trade relations by staying out of this conflict altogether. It is, thankfully, none of your concern. One foil can be easily paid back with the energy hoard the Morganites are sitting on.
Due to sunspots we are also hoping that you will quickly consider what you would be willing to pay us for Ecological Engineering. We are also considering a following leapfrog scheme that would benefit us both and the Angels. This is assuming you, the Gaians, are researching EcolEng.
1. Sparta gives Gaians EcolEng.
2. Gaia switches research to IntInt, provided they could get IntInt several years earlier than the Angels.
3. Gaia gives us - and the Angels - IntInt when it's researched. What Gaia gets in return from the Angels, is up to them.
4. The Angels switch research to Cyberethics (should that be possible), and give it to us when researched.
Yours sincerely,
Lt. Colonel Kassiopeia"Cutlery confused Stalin"

Hmm, not so bad actually..
Cybereth is somewhat good for Sparta..so if we do IntInt they will get Cyber for the same price as IntInt..
Also if we don't have the option of IntInt we should really try to add a point to negotiations which states that if the tech we research is better that EcolEng, like Environmental Economics, they should add some ECs to their part of deal..
But in general I think such trades are ALWAYS profitable, as we actually gain 2 techs (IntInt and Ecol Eng), but they gain only one (though a good one) IntInt
IntInt would be very good for us and I recently thought why didn't we research it in first place - it would eliminate the need for Rec Comms for us (police ability)..
If the Spartan plan works 100% they gain Cyber and IntInt which give them CDF + Knowledge
We have police units and boreholes..
We could probably also get Cyber from Angels as part of our deal, but I think that we don't need Cyber-if Angels have something better to offer, we should go for it..-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

This deal offers nothing concretel since it is just a bunch of speculation on the Spartan side. It gives us the task to negotiate what to get from Angels. It also shows Spartans are still on beeline to CDF. It also shows that Angels are leaking information about our research, while they are not updating us with information (it is several days, and they still haven't posted anything yet).
owever, we would gain both IntInt and probably something else from Angels, which is certainly a good prospect. We should also ask for TPD - if we assume Sparta and Angels trade technologies with each other in future, we need only Morgan or Lal's frequency to get this technologies. We should make a condition that all technologies in this leapfrog are given to every faction so that we gain Cyber as well.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

Thought about commlinks is very good!
We can add the Angel ignorance as a cause for higher price and ask for some commlinks as a bonus in this trade..-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

I've sent message to Kassiopeia notifying him that our response to tehir trade might be delayed for week or two because we need to explore this possibility of trade with Angels first and because we have activity problems.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

I am sorry to inform you that Gaian Union has refused exchange of tactical information.
Although it is a logical step to pool resources against a common enemy, Gaian Union declines because of actions of Spartan Federation.
For years and years, Spartan Federation is deliberately violating our teritory rights, mapping Gaian coast with their foil. Spartan Federation has clearly and intentionally violated our teritorial sea hoping to obtain tactical data without being noticed.
This act has been identified as hostile and as such, Gaian Union will not share any tactical data with you. Additionally, Gaian Union requests navigation logs from the foil as a possible compensation for your transgression. They must not be attempted to be falsificated.
Therefore any sea territory outside your coast has been considered, most likely by all factions so far, to be neutral territory. The Federation refuses to acknowledge transport through neutral waters as a hostile violation of territory.
We are happy to considering the acknowledgement of a territorial claim you are willing to make, the same way we have claimed sovereignity over our coastal waters (the Modo Doctrine) - however these claims can not, by common sense and logic, be in power retroactively.
Our investigation has shown that so called Morgan had nothing to do with assasination, in fact, Morgan never commited a hostile act against us, unlike Sparta.
Current suspects are Human Hive and Spartan Federation,
and since Human Hive foils do not cruise our coast, prime suspicion for the murder is Sparta.
Please, do not make the Junta suspect the possibility that this is a trumped-up charge spinned out of nowhere to facilitate a souring of relations that is a part of some greater scheme against us.
Now, unless this new turn in attitudes in the Gaian Union has affected our earlier tech agreement, I would like to relay to you a few questions and statements from our experts wrt. the tech arrangement agreed upon earlier.
First off, since we are at war with the Hiverian horde, we desire IntInt ASAP because we need it to establish a safe defensive perimeter. This perimeter is required because we see our position as that of a 'lightning rod', which is attracting the wrath of the tempest that is engulfing Chiron this present moment.
When, then, will you have Intellectual Integrity at the current rate of research you are using? When are you going to research EcolEng yourselves (we need this information for our own logistical setup of the deal).
Also, can we agree to a clause that allows a party to use a friendly probe action to extract an agreed-upon tech in case sun spots obstruct normal diplomatic channels? Which brings in mind my final question - would you like to re-establish more formal diplomatic communications in the form of an embassy, or do you wish to stick to our current system?
