  • Memory leak

As much as I dislike "Me, too!" messages...

I'm encountering the music-based memory leak as well. I'm running Win 98, AMD K6-2 350, 384MB memory, SB Live!-series sound card and ATI Rage Pro Turbo vid card.

    • Here is my bug, and it's darn annoying. My hardware is a P3 550, 192MB RAM, ATI Xpert 16 MB video, Win98 SE.

GAMEPLAY BUG: the air superiority mission does not seem to work for my fighters. This holds true for all the games I have tried it in. My fighters just sit idle while other nations' bombers drop their loads on my cities. However, the computer does not have this problem

      • This is not a major bug, but it's still one.

I was trading wine with the Americans when they asked Theory of Gravity for the Wines. I double-clicked on the foreign advisor's head in order to go the the science advisor to check the civilopedia entry for T of G. Since I already did build the wonder, I gave them the tech. When conversations ended, I got this screen.

Edit: I'm not using, nor used, any mod.

Oh for Crying Out Loud! I just pressed the "Print Sceen" key, opened Paint (included in every Windows version), pasted the picture, reduced the picture 50%, saved as JPEG and then posted it!

Has anyone else had a crash caused by diplomatic contact?
Funny, I used to get this occasionally when trying to talk to the Romans in Civ2!
As for Civ 3, I'm getting the "newborn" bug every time. Which isn't nice.

              • Re: Illegal Operation Error

I am getting the same error. Developers claim it is a problem with the encryption of the game and our inability of our driver to read it. Or it might have something to do with the fact we are using laptops. I have contacted the developers, the makers of the encryption code, and the maker of my computer and they all want to pass the buck to the other guy. If you find a soulution please let me know.

                • The memory leak with CIV3 caused CIV3 to crash on me today after 7 hours of continuous play. It also hung my computer.

                  Three cheers for Autosave!

                  Moral:

                  1: Use Autosave.
                  2. Every few hours of play, save your game, quit CIV3, and reboot your computer. This clears the memory leak.

                  • I've read in another thread that we in the UK may have our own special bug that causes "Invalid Page Fault" messages.
Going into the Windows control panel and turning hardware acceleration to "None" was suggested.
I tried this and the problem seems to be fixed - no more crashing every time I found a city.

I've noticed the same problem... but the maneuverability given by the railroads (zipping soldiers and goods in 0-2 turns where it used to take 3+) is well worth the extra effort of clicking the icon with your mouse.

As for corruption, I thought the Hidden Temple was supposed to help with that... I usually try to build the hidden temple in the city adjacent to my capital. At the same time across the board, I'm building a palace (preparing to transfer capitals). Usually by the time my "new" palace is complete the Hidden Temple is finished and (cross fingers, whisper a prayer) the transfer of power goes off without a hitch. Unfortunately it does NOTHING for corruption. I still have cities producing 20 shields with 15 or more going waste.

Trouble is, SHIFT-R won't work if the terrain doesn't already have a road. It should have been R for both. There's no reason for separate keystrokes.

                          • Can't build pikeman

Hi, I am playing the tournament game - my first civ3 game, and I have just traded for iron from the Persians. My problem is that I cant build Pikeman or upgrade my spearman. All my cities are connected via roads, I have barracks, and iron is in my strategic resource box in all my cities. According to the manual, and the civilopedia iron is all I need resource wise. Am I missing something or is this a bug.
                            Game attached.

                            • You CAN build Hoover Dam in a city with a river bordering on the edge (as opposed to running through the city). But you must build an aqueduct if that river is only on the edge. Maybe, not a bug, but a bit inconsistent.

                              • I've seen this on the buglist, but just to make sure that it isn't mistaken for a mac-only error:

Whenever I try to run Civ3, I get the splash screen and then I get an invalid page fault on ~DF394B.TMP. Oddly enough, if I re-install DirectX or change my video card drivers, Civ3 wiill run, however, rebooting will cause the error to return. This seems to be copy-protection related, as the no-CD executable from gamecopyworld.com will work.
