    Shocking....

ALthough I have not managed to finish a single game of any of them for ages due to DGs, I have played Civ3, 2 and SMAX since Civ3 came out, and enjoyed each of them.

CTP was and is garbage. How can you survive with PW?! CTP2 I have heard is better, and I'm willing to look at it with an open mind, but I haven't yet tried it. It's sitting on the shelf watching me now...

How can you prefer spending 10 minutes each turn moving 100 workers around, or living with them automated, spending 2 minutes just watching them, and not doing the best job at terraforming?

I prefer PW myself, though there are things in CTP I miss like upgrading.

I should pull out my CTP2 disk sometime and try the latest source code update...

The thing about public works is I always forgot to use them! The points would be unused.

With workers, when they start flashing, I don't forget to do something with them

If youve been playing civ2 for 10 years before, i think most people would forget. Although if you cant remember to look in the top right corner of the screen then you probably shouldnt be playing any games.

It's natural to forget to use PW in your first game, but that's not an excuse for not playing . In fact, you should always keep your eye on the top row when a new turn starts in CtP2 - not only shows your PW to use, but also shows if there are any riots going on.

I started civing with civIII. I got civII later. I played it once.

                        Once.

I think I also had a problem of not being able to put public works in the fog of war areas. I had trouble roading between cities. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong.

I'm an interface snob. If I don't like the interface, I don't play the game. One reason Arx Fatalis is still sitting doing nothing on my hard drive (I borrowed it from my brother, so it's not like I paid for it ), same with silent storm.

Well, if you can't care to learn the interface and are missing out on a game because of that, it's your loss, and a big loss.

Come on, you will get hang of the interface within a few hours, even if it's not an excellent designed interface. For some very clear interfaces, it takes barely 10 minutes.

How can you compare a game that has no multiplayer support to a game that has it? No contest here. I don't think civ3 and it's expansions were considered some of the worst ever for no reason. All you have to do is go check out the civ3 multiplayer forum to see that civ3 crashed and burned.

Civ2 and Civ3 are primarily single player games. Civ2 was not a great game because of multiplayer; MP just made its shelf-life longer for those die-hard fans out there (who misrepresent the actual Civ3 player base on fan sites such as these). Civ3 was a success despite the horrible "MP" expansion we know as Play the World.

So although multiplayer support is certainly one criteria by which to compare the games, it's unreasonable to compare them by it alone since both games are, as I just said above, primarily SP.
