  • Civ3 is awesome!

Seriously. How can anyone go back to civ2 after this game. The only thing civ2 had over this game was events. But that really only applies to scenarios. And I found I didn't like events in scenarios that often. Like that red front scenario. It's really annoying the enemy can spawn literally hundreds of units without lifting a finger. There are too many units to move around in that scenario.

I just had a rather enjoyable game of civ3. While I'm not sure if I can say it is better than civ2 was when I was playing civ2. But it is more modern.

I usually don't consider msyelf a graphics snob. But it is difficult going back to those civ2 graphics. And I'm kind of used to the gameplay of civ3 now. I hated some things at first, but I'm more used to them now.

Although I still have some minor complaints about production corruption. It's annoying taking 200 turns to build the forbidden palace. And I don't like the way pollution is implemented.

But how could I even consider going back to civ2?

But it's nice I'm still enjoying civ3 after it's been out so long. Although I did get bored of it a couple of times, I came back to it. The same could be said of SMAC. I do play SMAC occasionally. Despite similar gameplay, I don't consider the games that similar. They have a different look and feel to them.

It's annoying, but I think that's sort of the point. Building the empire-wide corruption reducer is not easy if you want to place it where it can dispel distance corruption. I would imagine you could get any city to at least 2 or 3 spt with a courthouse, larger population, and some mines, though.

IIRC, it was pretty much the same in Civ2 anyway, right? Not something you can solve by going back to it.

Civ3 is superior IMHO. Especially after the updates and patches.
(Wish I could say the same about MOO3. )

Hey Diss, how about we introduce a rule that anyone who calls CtP a sucky game is banned till he agrees to post otherwise ?

I think you need an option for playing SMAC. I have played a couple of games of SMAC since playing CIVIII. Overall I like CIVIII better than both CIVII and SMAC although I do miss some of the features that made SMAC a great game.

I do agree that the corruption model in CIVIII is a little harsh. I would like it better if the corruption reduction improvements like the courthouse removed more corruption than they do.

I dont mind the pollution that much. By the time pollution is a problem I have a Rail network connecting my cities with teams of automated workers cleaning up the messes.

So far nobody outed himself playing CtP, so it must be crappy indeed. But as former threads and polls have shown, it takes a PM to Maquiladora, who will then invade this forum together with the other CtP zealots and rig this poll until CtP wins.

Gee, Civ3 winning big in a poll on the Civ3 forum.

                  Shocking.

CtP doesn't suck. Yes, it had more bugs then all the other civ games combined... but it was still fun.
No match for CivIII, of course.

Civ 2 MP owns Civ 3 MP.
(Though in SP I prefer SMAC, which has a crappy MP and a ruined AI.)

I've played Civ2 once or twice since Civ3, but only because I was on someone else's computer and they did not have Civ3 yet...

In other words, I would not go back by choice.
