  • Annoying, buy not so much a bug.

both "clean pollution" and "chop forest" are shift+C, and pollution is chosen over forest.

    • Two issues (don't know if they're glitches or my own doing)

      1. "If anyone else runs into this wierd gold buildup, then we will suspect the return of something like the former gold bug." Same happened to me. The Byzantines got an extra 10,000-13,000 in the course of at most 3 turns when they reached the industrial age. Sadly, no saves.

      2. The seeming absence of bonus goods. Only one whale, and I can't say I've noticed any cattle or fish. In another game, only one fish and cattle, but no other bonus goods found. There might have been a few hidden somewhere, but in general the maps looked rather empty. Almost no bonus goods, compared to vanilla civs land of plenty. Maybe it's because I didn't set a seed when generating the map when starting a new game?

      • i've been absent for quite a while, so i try to keep up now. I'm a bit confused : all these issues regarding 1.20 are solved with 1.22 ? I 've just downloaded it, installed it and run.
The start screen is completely messed up, there are buttons like "baricade", "new baricade" , and there is no "exit" button. When selecting one, i find out that it opens a completely irrelevant screen. Finally, at the lower left corner, where the version number is seen, it reads 1.00.

Somebody? is it possible that the patch didn't install itself properly ?

And why is it that the patch is 20 Mb at the firaxis site and 5.8 Mb at the apolyton download site?

        • My 1.22 is 9404kb and 1.20 is about 21MB. I think the beta version was just an update (mine) and they came out with one that did not need the previous patch.

I forget if it required 1.15 or 1.20, so be sure you have the correct one and apply it with the proper prereqs.

So if you have the update (it says that in mine), then you need the proper prereq patch. If you have the complete version, I would back off all patches before applying.

          • Since the official site has just the 1.22 version available, i'll quess that there is no other prereq and it is the correct one. If else, how am i supposed to find out the correct order? the firaxis site says nothing, the atari support site says nothing (do they really expect from us to buy the next civ, showing this kind of respect to their customers?)

Yes, 1.22 is a stand-alone patch. The scrambled menu has happened to a few different people before and has something to do with the text files. A complete reinstallation should take care of it. Also, if you do not have the US version, be sure you are using the correct localized patch.

BTW, you didn't mention- are you playing with the Conquests expansion? The final patch for the original version was 1.29.

              • i'm talking about the conquests expansion. Ok, so i've used the correct patch. the problem insists after a couple of reinstallations. And it's not the only problem, regarding the menu screens. Once the game is started, there is no year date, instead there is "nov." (picture attached). I will try one more reinstallation, then i'll quit

                • Are you sure you are clearing out all of the old files before re-installing? If you have the US versions of both the discs and the patch, maybe the patch was corrupted during download? Otherwise, Atari does have support available at their website...

                  • Well, not complaining....much. Here's my glitch.
                    Running 900 MHz P3; 256 MB RAM, Win98SE.
Been playing Civ3, PTW, for well over a year. No problems except that last PTW patch didn't allow Tet's 31 civ scenario. (So I reinstalled previous patch...no big deal.)
Bought Conquests. Plays ok, but haven't finished game all through tech trees yet.
Downloaded (takes all night with dial up here in the mountains) patch 1.22 and installed it. Not only can I not load Conquests, I also can't load PTW. Tried all 5 methods of starting an application file that I'm aware of. No dice. The application files are there (Civ3Conquests.exe, for example), but the file will not open after installing the 1.22 patch.
Tried completely reinstalling all Civ files including back to Civ3. Reinstalled all. Installed 1.22 patch. Same results.
Then I updated all my Windows drivers, doublechecked status of other drivers, evertything is legit. Tried installing patch again. Same results.
So, I am also just a little chagrined with Atari right now. It seems that ever since they bought into this enterprise, patch writing has resembled the witch's cauldron in MacBeth.
Any suggestions for anything that I have overlooked? Thanks for any help any one can offer.

                    • I'd just suggest manually going in and deleting the Atari/Infogrames folder between installs (assuming there are no other important files in them ) to make sure it is a clean install. If this doesn't address the problem, it sounds like there could be a corrupted patch at one of the sites. Where did both of you download it from?

                      • Did anyone report a small irk with research where if you are researching something and steal a tech and that tech puts you into the next age, you lose all acumulated beakers?

I am playing game on 1.22 and I had one scientist. I had gotten Printing Press down to 13 turns to go and stoled Mag from America. It was the last tech required to go to the Industrial age, so off I went.

I see I am now looking at 50 turns for PP? Strangely no one has researched it or Demo so far.

                        • That is unusual AI behavor for 1.22.

I'm pretty sure someone has already noticed this, but I noticed last night in 1.22 some mouse over bugs.

Mouse Over Fasicsm and get Iron Clads.

                          • Good question, Rommel. Actually, a corrupted patch download occurred to me as well. The first download of 1.22 I recieved through CivFanatics website. (I hope that isn't sacrilege here at Apolyton.) After several unsuccessful attempts to install the patch, one of the things I tried (and forgot to mention in my previous post), was to delete the CivFan download of 1.22, download it directly from civ3.com. That download of 1.22 had the same results, to the last detail. I must assume there is something uniformly incompatible between 1.22 and my system or configsys, or my septegenarian phone lines out here in the mountains are incapable of transimitting whole and uncorrupted a 24 MB download.
You mentioned deleting the extraneous files in the Atari folder. Did you mean between installing Conquests and installing the patch? I'm willing to try almost anything so long as it doesn't involve incantations under a full moon.
Thanks for your reply. You folks are the *real* customer service and tech support behind any worthwhile game.

                            • I'm saying I'm not convinced uninstall shield properly deletes all the files, so between the uninstall and reinstall, delete the Atari/Infogrames folder manually if it isn't already removed. This was mostly to address sevencube's text file problem, so I don't think it will help with yours.

                              • I too, as Maccabee2, have considered the possibility of corrupted file. I downloaded twice, from www.civ3.com. No improvement.
I'll try Rommel2d's suggestion, and manually delete folders/files. Let's see if that works...
