First of all, you don't have to follow the WarCraft II approach to unit balancing. Imbalances are much harder to spot when unit selection is different. Second, helicopters can be attacked by land units and so you don't need

    AM
    Defense 0: Gold Piles
    Defense 1: City Watch
    Offense 0: Peasant Levies
    Offense 1: Knights
    Diplo: Assassin
    Naval: Sub

    Klatch
    Defense 0: D'Regs
    Offense 0: Foreign Legion
    Offense 1: Flying Carpet
    Diplo: Houris

    Uberwald
    Defense 0: City Guard
    Offense 0: Dwarves
    Offense 1: Werewolves
    Diplo: Vampire

Carrier-pigeon Network (pre-req for next one)
    Bank
Semaphore Shutters (pre-req for next one)
    Stock Market
Clacks Towers (allows improvement, but what??)
    Superhighway

    Phoenix

    What would Phoenices do?

    Gods

Temples could be used as Wonders

    Death 4 Horsemen

    What should cause the Apocalypse?

    Dragons (Wyrmberg)

Duke's Dragon Hatchery could be an improvement.

I'm rather fond of 'Nullus Anxietas', the motto of the Australian/XXXX branch of Unseen University (I assume that it's dog latin for 'No Worries' [a favorite Australian term, especially with the people at my local petrol station])

"Nullus Anxietas" is REAL Latin (well, except for the word order). The Pig Latin version is "o-nay orries-way".

Still, I don't now how I coudl translate "mate" in latin...

(I just found my old Latin dictionary, hidden under the dust... )

But, if my memory isn't betraying me, (and before I add it to my signature!! ) I think we can't simply write "Nullas Anxietas, Socius!". That is, in real latin!! oh, but as my signature is pig latin already, "nullas anxietas..."

Okay, first of all, I haven't read NEARLY all of the books, so don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong about something. I mostly prefer Leo's set of units.

                Prohibitng the settlers sounds good.

                Ankh-Morpork

                Offense 1: Knights

Did any of the books actually mention AM having knights? I'd use Cyrion's idea and use Wizards loaded with spells for the offensive units.

                Naval: Sub

                Where exactly is this from?

                Klatch

I liked the idea of having desert wastes as unbuildable defensive units.

                What should cause the Apocalypse?

A tech in the Thoughts From The Outside category, probably. Something that also gives huge benefits to encourage the players to research it.

Any "special units" would probably be created with events.
The breakfast of champions is the opposition.

I agree, even if it means the AI wouldn't be able to use them properly: it would mean that for SP you would have to play A-M (or make a different event helping the AI A-M!!)

My (full) idea was to give EACH Civ a unique really strong defensive unit in it's capital!! And Desert Wastes would be the one for Klatch (and A-M $ for... A-M )

                  Exactly my thought

Once again ( ), exactly what I had in mind!!

I am about to reread Jingo, but I am positive that it mentioned peasant levies and knights are a natural extension of that. How 'bout "nobles"?

Ugh... ISP swallowed up my first attempt at sending this.

Sorry for being quiet - been busy. End of school year tests and all that. I'll be brief, as I'm in a bit of a hurry even now.

Nobles as AM attack units sounds good to me. Your graphics look cool, Leo. A tad worried about ripped graphics distracting from the Disc feel. Must use 'em in moderation.

Not very familiar with civs other than AM, so I'll let you people choose the graphics most suitable for them. AM, if you remember, should cover more than one square (the actual city + special terrain made to look like an extension of it). Are there any suitable graphics for that somewhere?

Keep talking even while I'm gone. Easier for lazy me if you do all the planning for me and I only need to implement it. Just kidding. Probably won't go that far. But don't stop discussing this anyway.

Oh, and I'll see Attack of the Clones tomorrow. Gotta go read to a test now - see you later, folks.

Probably not if you are going for medieval feel. I think that has only been done for Roman- and Persian-style cities.

                              Still working on it...

Sorry for being quiet - been busy. End of school year tests and all that. I'll be brief, as I'm in a bit of a hurry even now.
End of school year tests?? Well, it does bring back long forgotten memories... Not the best memories from those years, though...

                              Have fun!!!

And don't worry: WE will keep on working on the scen...

Nobles as AM attack units sounds good to me.
Now about that: I just re-read Jingo, St-Leo, and they do speak about Knights being allowed to raise Regiments to fight for the City!! The reason why I don't want to use them as the "good offensive units" for A-M is that they are supposed to just suck!!

As you are re-reading the book, you'll notice that the main pre-occupation of the regimental leaders is to have "huge casualties", on which side not being really important (can't remember how it was put exactly, but that's the way it was written...)...

Now I agree, wizards with spell-missiles would mean that A-M can't be played by the AI!!

So we have to wonder what we prefer:

                              - excellent playability (and good fun) for player A-M with Wizards and Spells (upgrading them via tech, which would help to make a nice tech-tree!!) BUT without the possibility of playing solo against A-M, the AI being then just ridiculous...

                              - good playability for ALL civs, with the offensive unit for A-M being perhaps called Wizards as well, but just having good move and offense (??), and without the special touch magic could bring...

I would prefer the first possibility, but I wouldn't need too much convincing for the second one either...

Your graphics look cool, Leo. A tad worried about ripped graphics distracting from the Disc feel. Must use 'em in moderation.
I fully agree with that: the graphics look really good, but if we could use some more "typical" Discworld graphics as well, it would be nice!!

Ok, it's easy for me to say so, as I won't be the one doing those graphics... But who will???

Not very familiar with civs other than AM, so I'll let you people choose the graphics most suitable for them. AM, if you remember, should cover more than one square (the actual city + special terrain made to look like an extension of it). Are there any suitable graphics for that somewhere?
As St-Leo, I haven't seen exactly suitable graphics either, even though as saw a few ones used in the same kind of situation (BTW: I agree again, we need city terrain graphics for A-M). I'll try to attach them in the following post...

Oh, and I'll see Attack of the Clones tomorrow.
You're lucky, I won't have time for it before next week...
